Arkansas State’s Cail and Glunz & Marshall’s Thompson Earn Sun Belt Volleyball Players of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Arkansas State’s Daedrianna Cail and Haley Glunz and Marshall’s Bella Thompson each turned in impressive performances to lead in various statistics across the league. They have been named Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Players of the Week.
 
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Daedrianna Cail, Arkansas State

Arkansas State’s Daedrianna Cail led the Red Wolves' offense in a clean sweep of the Razorback Invitational, tallying 22 blocks, while posting 39 kills (3.25 per set) and two service aces on a .429 hitting percentage over three victories against North Dakota State, Southern Illinois, and Arkansas. The Marion, Ark., native accounted for 54.0 points on the weekend, starting with 24.5 via a career-high 17 kills (4.25 per set) plus two service aces on a .448 percentage against the Bison on Sept. 18. She followed the effort with her second career double-double one day later against the Salukis, tallying 11 kills on a .429 clip alongside 10 total blocks. The middle blocker played an important role in Arkansas State’s second win over an autonomy opponent this season, securing 11 kills on a .400 percentage in a 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22) decision against the Razorbacks. Cail extended her streak of double-digit kill performances to four matches, hitting above .400 in each contest.
 
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Haley Glunz, Arkansas State

Arkansas State’s Haley Glunz led the defensive effort for the Red Wolves at the Razorback Invitational, posting 22.0 total blocks (1.83 per set) over three victories against North Dakota State, Southern Illinois, and Arkansas. The Aurora, Colo., native recorded 5.0 apiece against the Bison on Sept. 18 and the Salukis on Sept. 19 before establishing a new career high with 12.0 (3.00 per set) in a 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22) victory over the Razorbacks on Sept. 20.
 
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Bella Thompson, Marshall
(Sr., S, Mooresville, N.C.)
 
Marshall’s Bella Thompson helped the Herd to a 2-1 weekend with 124 assists (10.33 per set, second most in the SBC) and a Wofford Invitational All-Tournament Team nod last week. In a win over host Wofford, the senior had 40 assists and 18 digs on Friday and followed that with 50 assists and 14 digs on Saturday in a victory over Gardner-Webb.
