NEW ORLEANS – For the fourth-straight season, the Sun Belt is represented on
Preseason Watch List for The Golden Spikes Award, presented annually by USA Baseball. The award seeks to identify the nation’s top amateur baseball player, including athletes from both the high school and college ranks.
Coastal Carolina junior starting pitcher Cameron Flukey—who was named the
Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year and the
Baseball America & Perfect Game National Preseason Pitcher of the Year—represents the Sun Belt on this year’s 55-player list.
Flukey—
a consensus Preseason First Team All-American—accumulated a 7-2 record with a 3.19 ERA, 118 strikeouts and just 24 walks over 101.2 innings pitched in 2025. The Egg Harbor Township, N.J., native appeared in 18 games with 17 starts as a sophomore, holding opponents to a .209 batting average.
In total, 41 schools and 13 conferences were represented on the Preseason Watch List.
Over the past four seasons, Coastal Carolina catcher Caden Bodine (2025), Troy catcher Brooks Bryan (2025), Coastal Carolina designated hitter Derek Bender (2024), Troy outfielder Shane Lewis (2024), Louisiana outfielder Carson Roccaforte (2023), Southern Miss starting pitcher Tanner Hall (2023) and Texas State starting pitcher Levi Wells (2023) have earned mention on the Preseason Watch List for The Golden Spikes Award.
The Golden Spikes Award will announce its Midseason Watch List on April 2, its semifinalists on May 14, its finalists on June 10 and its award winner on June 29.
