NEW ORLEANS – Coastal Carolina junior guard A.J. Dancler has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring over 50 total points in a pair of crucial road wins during the final week of the regular season.
 
Dancler becomes the third player to receive the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor twice this season alongside Georgia Southern’s Spudd Webb and South Alabama’s Chaze Harris. The last Coastal Carolina player to earn Player of the Week twice in a season was DeVante Jones in 2020-21.
 
An Indianapolis native, Dancler averaged 26 points, four rebounds and two assists while shooting 18-for-34 (.529) overall and 7-for-15 (.467) beyond the 3-point arc in addition to going 9-for-9 at the free throw line in victories at Georgia State on Feb. 24 James Madison on Feb. 27.
 
Dancler started the week with a 32-point outburst in the Chanticleers’ 76-71 win over the Panthers in Atlanta - his third 30-point game of the season. He shot 12-for-20 in the contest and 4-for-8 from deep with four free throws made while grabbing five rebounds.
 
Coastal Carolina’s second-leading scorer this season at 15.8 points per contest, Dancler closed the week with 20 points on 6-for-14 shooting, including 3-for-7 from outside in a key, 69-68 triumph over the Dukes in the season finale. He made all five free throw attempts and added three rebounds and a trio of assists to his final line.
