App State, Arkansas State, Marshall and Old Dominion Advance to Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Semifinals

ROME, Ga. – Sixth seeded App State and tenth seeded Marshall each earned their spot in the 2026 Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Championship Semifinals via upset at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in the quarterfinals round on Friday.
 
The pair are joined by No. 1 seed Old Dominion and No. 4 seed Arkansas State as the semifinal teams. The Monarchs will face the Red Wolves at 1 p.m. ET as the Mountaineers and Thundering Herd will square off at 1:30 p.m. ET. Both semifinal matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Match 6: (1) Old Dominion 4, (9) James Madison 0

Top seeded Old Dominion (11-5) won the doubles point and lost just one set across the six singles courts to return to the semifinal round for the fourth consecutive year.
 
The Monarch duo of Kira Matushkina and Victoria Matasova won 6-2 on court one to start doubles play. Old Dominion secured the doubles point on court three with Ulyana Romanova and Lidiia Rasskouskaia winning 6-4.
 
In singles, Old Dominion’s Marina Markina finished first on court six in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. James Madison (12-11) took the first set on court two from Mia Saveljic, however the Monarchs increased their lead on court five as Rasskouskaia won 6-2, 6-1. Leading 3-0, Old Dominion finished the match on court four with Uladzislava Manzhos winning 6-4, 6-3. There were two tiebreak matches on court one and three that were both won by the Monarchs.
 
Match 7: (4) Arkansas State 4, (5) Texas State 0

No. 4 seed Arkansas State (13-8) started quick with the doubles point and held off No. 5 seed Texas State (14-8) in singles to advance to the semifinals.
 
The Red Wolves pair of Lilly Cvanciger and Carla Muro Castellvi finished first on court one, 6-2. Teammates Anna Grigoreva and Sarah Millard finished shortly after on court two, 6-1, to give Arkansas State the early 1-0 lead.
 
Texas State won a pair of tiebreak matches on courts one and two and picked up a set on court two from Ireland Simme and court six from Anastas Radovanovic. Arkansas State increased its lead after a two set finish on court five from Meghna Arun Kumar, 6-1, 6-4. Muro Castellvi provided the next Red Wolves point on court four, winning 7-5, 6-1. Leading 3-0, Millard closed out the match on court six, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
 
Match 8: (10) Marshall 4, (2) South Alabama 1

Tenth seeded Marshall (14-10) used the momentum from the doubles point to upset second seeded South Alabama (11-7) 4-1 and return to the semifinals.
 
The Thundering Herd duo of Polina Gumeniuk and Thalia Smith won 6-1 for the early doubles point. Alina Mokrynska and Johanna Strom won 6-2 on court one to secure the 1-0 advantage.
 
South Alabama’s Cristina Tchanichev won the first point for singles on court three by a scoreline of 6-1, 0-6, 6-1 to level the score at 1-1. Marshall’s Gumeniuk finished next on court two, 6-4, 6-4, to put the Thundering Herd ahead 2-1. Nour El Ouazzani picked up another finish on court five, 7-6 (6), 6-3, to give Marshall a 3-1 advantage. Sarah Copley secured the upset on court four after losing the first set 6-1 and winning the tiebreaker in the second set 7-5. Copley closed out the third set 6-2 to send the Thundering Herd back to the semifinals.
 
Match 9: (6) App State 4, (3) Troy 2

In the most contested match of the championship, No. 6 seed App State (13-10) outlasted No. 3 seed Troy (12-7) to advance to the semifinals.
 
The Mountaineers came out swinging in doubles by taking the first two courts 6-1. With the 1-0 lead early, App State added to its advantage on court five as Ruby Broadbent won 6-3, 6-3. Savannah Dada-Mascoll won her match 6-4, 7-5, on court one to put the Mountaineers ahead 3-0. Troy’s Valeriia Avdeeva answered on court two with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Fellow Trojan Sama Hindawy won her match on court six, 6-4, 6-2, to bring the scoreline to 3-2.
 
The two teams split the first two sets on courts three and four to force a third set. Despite losing the first set 6-3, Allegra Hodson secured the Mountaineer victory on court four, 6-1, 6-4, to send App State to the semifinals.
