NATCHITOCHES, La. – The ULM softball squad fell 6-2 after holding a two-run lead through the first two innings against Northwestern State Tuesday inside Lady Demon Diamond.
Senior shortstop Faith Bohack put the Warhawks (18-21) up early in the second as she hit a two-run homer over the wooden bleachers in left.
The Lady Demons (22-13) countered in the third as senior Natalie Landry hit a two-out, three-run home run to right-center off of sophomore Paige Porter (3-4) to give NSU a 3-2 advantage.
Lady Demons designated player Kaylee Isenburg then commenced the fourth with a double off the top of the center-field fence. NSU pinch runner Kayla Roquemore advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and was plated on a single up the middle, lifting the Lady Demons to a 4-2 advantage.
Freshman Casey Waterman then entered the circle with runners on first and second and one out. Waterman walked the first batter she faced on four pitches and Lady Demon leadoff hitter Kellye Kincannon followed up with a two-RBI single to put NSU up 6-2.
The top of the fifth began to look promising as junior Rochelle Roberts smacked a one-out double to the fence in right center. Freshman Sydney McKay then lined out to Bouvier and NSU caught Roberts halfway to third during the double play.
Porter re-entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and runners on first and third and forced a groundout to end the inning. Bouvier then allowed a leadoff double to sophomore second baseman Cheyanne Lyon before retiring the next three ULM batters in order to end the game.
Bouvier scattered the three aforementioned doubles in 4.2 innings of work and struck out four. Porter was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. McKay extended her current hitting streak to five games with a single in the third.
The Warhawks return to action tomorrow inside ULM Softball Complex on a 6 p.m. CT first pitch versus Louisiana Tech.
