No. 6 Troy walks off against No. 7 UT Arlington in extra innings

Mobile, Ala. – Senior Amanda Winters laced a double into the left-center field gap to score senior Hannah Day from first as No. 6 seed Troy won in walk-off fashion, 3-2, against No. 7 seed UT Arlington in an elimination game at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship.

Troy (31-23) advances to face No. 3 seed Texas State in a 5:30 p.m. CT game on Wednesday at Jaguar Field. UT Arlington finishes its season with a 29-20 overall mark. The Troy vs. UT Arlington game was the final single elimination game of the tournament as six teams now advance into double elimination play.

Troy senior Ashley Rainey (16-13) earned the win as she tossed nine innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. UTA freshman Samantha Clakley took the loss to fall to 18-14 on the season. Clakley went eight innings and gave up three earned on 12 hits with four strikeouts.

Troy junior Becca Hartley started off the scoring by launching a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning. The Mavericks responded in the top of the fourth when junior Mallory Foster grounded out to score freshman Laura Curry. The Mavericks then took the lead in the fifth when junior Shelbi Sikes grounded out to score junior Kacey Everett.

Troy bounced back with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Meg Willis singled through the left side to score Hartley from third.
