No. 4 Georgia State run rules No. 8 UL Monroe, 10-2

Mobile, Ala. – The No. 4 seed Georgia State earned a run-rule victory in the first round of double elimination play against No. 8 seed UL Monroe at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship.

The Panthers (31-26), who by virtue of earning the No. 4 seed earned a bye to the double elimination round, advance to face the No. 1 seed UL Lafayette at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday morning. UL Monroe (24-32) will play an elimination game against the losing team from the matchup between No. 3 seed Texas State and No. 6 seed Troy on Wednesday night.

A five-run, bottom of the sixth inning clinched the victory for the Panthers. The inning started when junior Morgan Brown singled and sophomore Taylor Bradley doubled. Senior Taylor Anderson followed that with a two-RBI triple before sophomore Ivie Drake doubled her in to give the Panthers an 8-2 edge.

With two outs, sophomore Brenna Skalski singled to score Drake. After a single by freshman Remington Hasty, freshman Reagon Morgan reached base on an error to score freshman Remington Hasty and Skalski to finish the game.

Freshman Amanda Chance earned the win in relief to improve to 7-6 on the year. Chance went 2.1 innings with a strikeout and did not allow a run. ULM junior Melanie Coyne took the loss to fall to 18-22 on the season after she allowed four earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
