THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Terry Fowler
Opening Statement: "It's great to get a win. We didn't have a let-down after the big win in North Carolina. We talked all week about this game being a trap game for us. We came out and really played well, especially in the second quarter. We haven't talked a lot about our defense this year as much as we have in the past, but the one thing that always has to be constant is our defense. I thought in the first half we played really good defense. The one thing we're probably the most disappointed in is the amount of turnovers tonight. We left some opportunities on the floor. They made a run, which they have done most of the season, late in ball games. We made some key shots to hold them at bay."

On using actual mouse traps this week: "It's just one of the things we talked about. I had been out of town recruiting, and I came in and told our Director of Basketball Operations, J.D. Brooks, that I needed him to run to the dollar store and get me some mouse traps. So we had about five mouse traps and placed them in different spots throughout the locker room where they could see them. Today they actually went into certain people's lockers, the seniors, to remind them. We just couldn't have any let down. I was just proud of the fact that we didn't."

On what to build from tonight: "We're sharing the basketball and moving it. That was really big for us, and we want to continue to do that. Now we have two games on the road this week. We just have to continue to be a tight unit, move the basketball and share. We have a lot of different weapons so I don't think you can just load up on one player. There are a lot of people able to score the basketball. Again, now our defense has to go with us on the road."

On a good lead at halftime and really sealing the deal in the third quarter: "We got stops, rebounded the ball and then pushed it and got some easy buckets. I thought the transition baskets that we got in the third quarter really spread the gap on them. Then we were just able to hold on from there."

Antoinette Lewis
On what was working for her tonight: "I was able to read the double. When they doubled me I tried to find the open player, and when they didn't, I went and scored one-on-one."

On how important it was to stay focused and get a dominate win: "It was very important. Like coach said, we talked over and over again about not letting this game be a mouse trap, not come and be disappointed. We're also working really hard to not lose any home games. That's what we're working towards."

Chyna Ellis
On how important it was to stay focused and get a dominate win: "It's big because like they both said, he's been walking around with actual mouse traps. Just making sure we stay focused and continue our momentum through the rest of the season."

On the key to staying focused: "We had to slow down, read the defense and get the ball to the open player."

Nebraska Holds On to Defeat Coastal in San Juan Shootout
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team suffered its second loss in the 2017 San Juan Shootout Friday afternoon, falling 55-47 to Nebraska at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.

Senior guard Jas Adams scored a career high of 28 points in the game, including 10 of Coastal's 11 points in the fourth quarter as the Chants (3-3) fought back from a double figure deficit.

Nebraska's (4-2) lead of 10 points at the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter was cut in half with two minutes remaining after Adams singlehandedly sent Coastal on an 8-2 run. The Chants were held off the board for the remainder of regulation, however, and Nebraska hit a 3-pointer with a minute remaining for the eight-point final margin.

The Cornhuskers made 11 3-pointers for the game, including nine baskets from beyond the arc in the second half. Nebraska's Taylor Kissinger led the Huskers with 15 points, all coming from 3-point makes. Kissinger was the only Nebraska player to score in double figures, though Emily Wood and Nicea Eliely both finished with nine points.

Nebraska held only slight advantages in total baskets (21-19), rebounds (34-33) and assists (15-12). The Chants held a five-point advantage at the free throw line, and committed three fewer turnovers. Coastal also had 13 steals to Nebraska's six, including a game-high six steals for Adams.

DJ Williams scored 11 points on 5-of-9 from the floor and a make from the line. No other Chanticleer had more than four points.

Coastal trailed Nebraska by four points following the first quarter, but held the Cornhuskers to just three baskets and a 23.1 shooting percentage in the second quarter. The Chants closed the first half on a 10-2 run to take a three-point lead, their first of the game, into halftime.

Three of Nebraska's first four baskets of the second half came from beyond the arc, giving the lead back to the Cornhuskers. The lead stayed with Nebraska for the remainder of the game as it continued to convert its chances from beyond the arc.

Adams' 28-point performance came less than a week after setting a previous career high with 25 points in a win over UNC Wilmington. Adams has scored in double figures in all six of Coastal's games this season, including 15 or more points in five of those six games.

Coastal has nearly a week off before returning to action at the HTC Center, where it will play its next three games. The Chants host College of Charleston on Nov. 30, followed by games against Fort Wayne (Dec. 4) and North Carolina Central (Dec. 8). All three games tip-off at 6 p.m.
