No. 5 UTA moves on with run-rule win vs. No. 8 Coastal Carolina
Troy, Ala. – The No. 5 seed UTA advanced to the double elimination portion of the 2017 Sun Belt Softball Championship with a 9-1 victory in five innings against No. 8 seed Coastal Carolina at the Troy Softball Complex.
UTA (32-23) advances to face No. 4 seed South Alabama at 3 p.m. CT. Coastal Carolina (32-23) is eliminated from its first ever Sun Belt Softball Championship.
The Mavericks led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth before plating seven runs in the frame to notch the run-rule victory. Mallory Foster led the effort with two runs scored and two RBI while Whitney Walton went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI
Sam Clakley (24-12) took the win while Coastal Carolina’s Ashley Guillette (13-10) took the loss in the circle.
