No. 7 ULM defeats No. 6 Georgia Southern 5-4
Troy, Ala. – No. 7 seed ULM used five clutch hits and five errors by No. 6 seed Georgia Southern to earn a 5-4 win in the first round of the 2017 Sun Belt Softball Championship.

The seventh-seeded Warhawks (30-26) advance to face the third-seeded Georgia State at 5:30 p.m. CT in the first round of double elimination play later today. The Eagles (24-29) are eliminated from the tournament.

The Warhawks struck first when Jayden Mount scored on a passed ball during the top of the first inning. The Eagles responded with a run in the bottom of the first and second to take an early lead. ULM then put up a run in the top of the fourth when Mount drew a bases-loaded walk and two runs in the top of the fifth when Cheyanne Lyon and Hunter Hogan scored on a throwing error.

Melanie Coyne provided an insurance tally in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the winning run, with a sacrifice fly to plate Hogan.

Coyne improved to 17-14 with the win while Georgia Southern pitcher Dixie Raley fell to 13-20 with the loss.
