No. 1 Louisiana moves on with 6-0 victory vs. No. 4 South Alabama
Troy, Ala. – The No. 1 seed Louisiana defeated No. 4 seed South Alabama 6-0 in its first game of the 2017 Sun Belt Softball Championship to advance to an 11 a.m. CT semifinal game on Friday.
The No. 14/15 Ragin’ Cajuns (43-6) will play the winner of No. 2 seed Texas State and No. 3 seed Georgia State on Friday for a spot in the championship game of the tournament. The Jaguars (34-19) fall to the elimination bracket and will take on seventh-seeded ULM at 3 p.m. CT on Thursday.
Louisiana pitcher Alex Stewart set a new single-game career high with 12 strikeouts and improved to (23-3) with a two-hit shutout. South Alabama pitcher Destin Vicknair took the loss to drop to 14-11.
The Ragin’ Cajuns plated three runs in the first on back-to-back home runs, starting with a two-run home run from Aleah Craighton and followed by a solo shot from Lexie Comeaux.
The Ragin’ Cajuns plated three more runs in the fourth inning after three straight hits to start the inning loaded the bases and DJ Sanders drew a RBI walk. Haley Hayden followed with a RBI single and Craighton delivered a sacrifice fly.
