No. 4 South Alabama defeats No. 7 ULM 3-2 in 8 innings
Troy, Ala. – No. 4 seed South Alabama outlasted No. 7 seed ULM 3-2 in an extra-inning elimination game at the 2017 Sun Belt Softball Championship.

South Alabama (36-19) advances to an elimination game at 2 p.m. CT on Friday against the winner of No. 2 Georgia State and No. 5 UTA. ULM (30-28) is eliminated from the tournament.

Aly Smith provided the game-winning hit as she laced a one-out double into the left center field gap to score Savanna Mayo, who hit a leadoff double, and give the Jags a 3-2 edge. Devin Brown (19-6) secured the win as she scattered two earned runs and four hits across the complete game effort.

ULM pitcher Paige Porter took the loss to fall to 6-7 on the season.

The Jaguars struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. Kaleigh Todd doubled into the gap in left center to score Haleigh Lane from first. The Jags loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning when Kristian Foster drew a walk to plate Megan Harris and give them a 2-0 lead.

ULM scored its first run of the contest the next half inning when Jessie Watts grounded out with the bases loaded to score Sydney McKay from third.

Jayden Mount launched a dramatic game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth over the left field fence.
