Trojans Rout Jackson State; Little Rock Scores Twice in Second Half for Win

JACKSON, Miss. – The Troy women's soccer team dominated Jackson State from the first whistle until the last en rout to a 9-0 victory at the JSU Soccer Complex on Sunday.

Troy (2-3) got goals from eight different players with Alison Watkins scoring twice, while 24 players saw action. The Trojans tallied 37 shots in the match, tied for sixth-most in program history. Kate Lorenz opened the scoring in the 11th minute while Troy went on the land four more goals in the first half alone.

Jackson State (0-5) managed just four shots in the game with two being on target.

QUOTABLE
"Very happy to keep a clean sheet coming off a tough loss," Troy head coach Ged O'Connor said. "It was great to see so many players get some serious minutes, play well and make it difficult for me to pick a starting 11 moving forward."

UP NEXT
Troy takes on Jacksonville State on Friday at 4 p.m. and Alabama at noon on Sunday as part of the Jaguar Classic hosted by South Alabama.

• Troy got goals from Watkins, Lorenz, Karley Baker, Qarli Stone, Maddie Brune, Julia Winter, Annie Kallay and Megan Aaron.

• Lorenz, Baker, Kallay, Bayer and Aaron all scored their first career goals.

• Winter scored her third goal in as many games.

• Stone scored for the second time in the last three games.

Two Second-Half Goals Lead Little Rock over Bears
LITTLE ROCK – The Trojan soccer team got two second-half goals and defeated Missouri State 2-0 at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Quin Wilkes and Liesa Seifert were the goal-scorers for the Trojans, and Megan Swanson earned her first career clean sheet with three saves.

After a first half that saw neither team able to generate quality opportunities, Wilkes started out the second half with a bang. Receiving a pass from midfielder from freshman Morgan Smocovich, Wilkes sprinted with possession of the ball and one defender in front of her. Wilkes dribbled past the defender and took a shot from the right side of the penalty box into the lower left corner of the net in the 48th minute.

Twenty minutes later, Seifert got her first goal as a Trojan on a free kick. Smocovich again played a role in the goal, this time running over the ball on the free kick to fake out the Missouri State defense. Seifert then ran up to the ball and shot it over the wall, curling it into the right side of the net to make it 2-0.

Little Rock outshot Missouri State 15-11 overall and 10-6 in the second half. Swanson made two of her three saves in the second half. Little Rock also had five corner kicks to Missouri State's four.

Lisa Ryan and Swanson were the only Trojans to play all 90 minutes. Maia Martinez made her Trojan debut on Sunday, and seven different players saw action off the bench.

The Trojans play one game next weekend, hosting Sam Houston State at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Eagles Offense Rolls, as Defense Continues to Shut the Door
STATESBORO, Ga. – Sunday afternoon the Eagles concluded the Mercer Tournament against the Saints of Siena. The Blue and White defeated the Saints improving their record to 2-1-1 on the season. The Eagles 3-0 victory was the second of the season and the third shutout of the year.

Sarah Price opened up the scoring in the 13th minute with her first goal of the season. Asha Vilaythong played a ball into the box allowing Price to finish giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead early. Freshman Juvenia Hylton joined the scoring parade, in the 39th minute, when she recovered a rebound in front of the net. Hylton had 3 shots, with 2 on goal, and scored the second goal of the afternoon.

Nicole Aussin picked up right where Hylton left off just over a minute after she scored. Aussin to a pass from Hylton and scored in the 40th minute to extend the Eagles lead to 3-0. All three Eagles that scored recorded their first goals of the season.

The Eagles defense has been strong to open up the 2017 season. For the third time in as many games the back line and keepers have held their opponents scoreless. Madeline Jones recorded her fourth complete game of the season and has been a leader on the back line of the Eagles defense.

Lauren Karinshak extended her scoreless streak to 335 minutes and picked up her third consecutive clean sheet of the season. Karinshak finished the afternoon with two saves and shut the door on the Saints.

"Outstanding team performance today, we were very organized defensively, the players were focused and executed our game plan very well. I'm glad we got our offense going, we looked much more threatening in the attacking third. We moved the ball very nicely, had some quality movement in our buildup play. It was good to see some individual players step up and make things happen. It was a good game for us, I'm happy with the progress we've made but we still have some issues we need to address and improve upon."

NEXT UP
The Eagles will travel to Pullman, Washington to compete in the Washington State Tournament. The Blue and White will face off against Montana on Friday and Washington State on Sunday.

Chants Take Down Buccaneers 3-0
CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's soccer team got back on the winning track after taking down in-state opponent Charleston Southern, 3-0, Sunday at CCU Soccer Stadium. The win improves Coastal's record to 3-1 and the Buccaneers dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Elisabeth Rockhill scored what proved to be the game-winning and her first career goal in the 10th minute with the assist from Daniella Famili for the early one-to-nil lead.

In the 32nd minute, Famili struck for her own score as she found the back of the net off the feed from Brenna Leftwich.

Not only did Coastal take a 2-0 lead at the break, but the Chanticleers out-shot the Buccaneers seven to three. The second half was more of the same from the Chants, as they took eight shots to the Buccaneers three and out-shot CSU 15-6 for the contest.

Brooke Horist closed out the scoring in the 84th minute with a Kendall Parks assisted goal to provide the 3-0 final.

CCU keeper Rylee Atteberry picked up her third win on the season as she recorded two saves.

The Chanticleers will return to action in a double header on Friday, Sept. 1, at 5:00 p.m. as they will take on former Big South foe Winthrop followed by the men's team, who play UNC Greensboro, at 7:30 p.m.
