FOLEY, Ala. - Brenna McPartlan's penalty kick in the 24th minute proved to be the difference for South Alabama as they defeated fifth-seeded Georgia State, 1-0, at the Foley Sports Complex, to advance to Sunday's Championship match to take on third-seeded Arkansas State.
This will be USA's sixth appearance in the Championship match in the past seven seasons as they won the tournament title five consecutive seasons from 2013-17. This year's appearance will be the second for head coach Richard Moodie since he took the helm of the Jaguar program in 2017.
With the win USA improves to 15-3-2 on the year while Georgia State's season comes to a close with a 9-9-2 record. Since 2013, the Jaguars are 16-0-3 in Sun Belt tournament matches.
The Jaguars will focus their efforts on securing a sixth tournament title on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT when they take on the Red Wolves. USA defeated A-State, 1-0, in double-overtime on Oct. 6, kick starting its seven-match winning streak.
Over their past 12 matches the Jaguars have shutout 10 of their last 12 opponents and have tallied 12 clean sheets on the season, tying the school record set in 2014 and 2016.
