NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana enters the 2020 softball season as a consensus top 10 pick among six national preseason polls, ranking eighth in the D1Softball.com, FloSoftball, Softball America and College Sports Madness polls and 10th in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association and ESPN.com/USA Softball polls.

Louisiana is set to embark on the upcoming season once again leading the way for Sun Belt Conference and vying for a national championship run. Last season, the Ragin' Cajuns (52-6, 25-0 Sun Belt in 2019) swept the Sun Belt's regular-season and tournament titles, earned a top 10 national ranking, returned to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship for the 21st consecutive time and recorded their first 50-win campaign since 2012.

Louisiana is ranked in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll for the 17th-straight season (2004-20). The Ragin' Cajuns have been ranked in every preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, which debuted in 2006.

Texas State also received preseason recognition, listed 44th in the Top 44 team previews by College Sports Madness. This season, the Bobcats (29-25, 16-10) are slated to face nine NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.

The 2020 Sun Belt softball season gets underway on Friday, Feb. 7, with all 10 teams in action over the opening weekend. The 2020 Sun Belt Softball Championship is set for May 6-9 at the Robert E. Heck Softball Complex in Atlanta.
