2020 Indoor Track & Field Awards, All-Conference Teams Announced

NEW ORLEANS - The 2019-20 Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field specialty awards and all-conference teams, as voted on by the league’s head coaches, were announced on Thursday.

On the men’s side, UT Arlington senior Justin Domangue was named the Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer, Louisiana junior Chandler Mixon was named the Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer, UTA’s Ismael Kone was named Men's Freshman of the Year and Bryson DeBerry was named Newcomer of the Year.

At the 2020 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championship, Domangue was the meet's top meet scorer (26 points) claiming the title in the men's 3,000-meters and finishing second in both the mile and 5,000-meters. Mixon earned runner-up finishes in both the heptathlon and pole vault and finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles, earning 17 points for the Cajuns.

UTA's Kone was a sprints double winner, claiming the titles in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. DeBerry took top honors for the Mavericks in the high jump - tying a Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field record.

On the women’s side, Texas State sophomore Sadi Giles was named the Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer and senior Naomi Ferdinand was named the Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer. Coastal Carolina freshman Melissa Jefferson swept the Women's Freshman and Newcomer of the Year awards. Giles, one of the top women’s scorers at the 2020 Championship with 20 points, claimed gold in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash while Ferdinand won the triple jump and finished second in the long jump. CCU's Jefferson was the runner-up to Giles in the 60-meter dash and was on the 4x400-meter relay team for the Chanticleers.

Arkansas State claimed both the men's and women's conference team titles for the first time since 1998 and in doing so, head coach Jim Patchell was named the Men's and Women's Head Coach of the Year. The men's title was the program's eighth overall while the women claimed its fifth overall title and first since 2013. Patchell has now won five Sun Belt Head Coach of the Year honors.
