BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time in school history, the Texas State Bobcats captured both the Men’s and Women’s Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championship, contested at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The Texas State women totaled 126.5 total team points to finish atop the podium for the second consecutive year. Louisiana finished second with 81 total points as Coastal Carolina finished in third with 71 team points.

For the Texas State men, it was their second all-time Sun Belt Indoor crown. For the women, it was their sixth Sun Belt indoor crown. The two programs marked a new benchmark in school history as they both claim an indoor title in the same year for the first time.

Three new meet records fell at the Birmingham CrossPlex, including a record that was set twice. Valentino Rudolph from Southern Miss set a new meet record in the 200m in the prelims at 20.78. Rudolph then broke his own record in the finals to claim the top spot on the podium in 20.76. Texas State’s Abigail Parra set a new benchmark in the women’s mile with a time of 4:43.08. Texas State teammates Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru tied for the gold in the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.22m/7-3.25. The Bobcat pairing punched their tickets to the national championships as they tied the fourth-best mark of the season.

Ja’Shaun Lloyd from Texas State won both the men’s 60m and 60m hurdles with a second place finish in the 200m. Lloyd was also a member of the third place finishing 4x400m relay team as he was awarded the Men’s Top Meet Scorer with 29.5 points. It marked the highest points total by an individual since Middle Tennessee’s Justus David scored 33 points in 2011.

On the women’s side, Texas State’s Abigail Parra used her record setting performance in the mile to catapult atop the podium in the women’s 800m as well. Parra added a silver medal in the women’s 3000m to finish with 28 points and be named the Women’s Top Meet Scorer.
