NEW ORLEANS – Marshall senior guard Taevion Kinsey averaged nearly 22 points per game on 60 percent shooting in leading his team to three victories this past week. He is the Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Kinsey helped the Thundering Herd notch victories against Tennessee Tech, Miami (Ohio) and Coppin State to improve to 3-1 on the season. He averaged 35.0 minutes per contest over the three-game stretch.
Kinsey was the only player in the Sun Belt last week to rank among the league’s top-five in both points per game and assists per game. He was fourth in the SBC in points per game last week with 21.7 and second in assists with 6.7.
Kinsey connected on 28-of-47 shots (.596) from the floor and also made 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the arc.
In the victory against Tennessee Tech, Kinsey made 13-of-19 shots from the field for a game-high 28 points. He also added a game-high seven assists and three steals in his 100th career start.
In a road win at Miami (Ohio), Kinsey became just the fifth player in Marshall program history to reach 2,000 career points. He totaled 14 points in that contest.
In Saturday’s victory against Coppin State, Kinsey came just short of a triple-double, finishing with a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
