Troy’s Horne, Johnson Sweep Sun Belt Softball Player of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Troy’s Kelly Horne and Leanna Johnson helped their team to a highly successful weekend at the Troy Invitational and have been named Sun Belt Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. It is the second consecutive SBC Pitcher of the Week honor for Johnson.

Trojans’ junior second baseman Kelly Horne led the Trojans, batting at a .625 clip, marking the second consecutive week Horne has batted above .600. She recorded six extra-base hits – four doubles and two home runs. Horne also added seven walks, including an intentional walk to put the tying run at the plate against Ole Miss. On Friday, Horne tied the game against Ole Miss with an RBI single and set Anslee Finch up for the eventual game-winner. On the weekend, Horne recorded an impressive 1.250 slugging percentage and a .739 on-base percentage. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Leanna Johnson, Troy

Trojans’ junior pitcher Leanna Johnson tossed her first no-hitter of the season on Friday, downing Eastern Kentucky, which made an NCAA Regional appearance last season, Johnson followed the no-no with a win against SEC foe Ole Miss on Saturday. She also picked up her first save of the season after tossing two shutout innings to solidify Troy’s win over Nicholls on Saturday. On the week, Johnson fanned 41 batters over 26 innings of work. She pinned opponents to a .191 batting average and recorded a 1.62 ERA.
