NEW ORLEANS – After leading their teams to victory in front of national television audiences, Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall and Troy’s Richard Jibunor and Scott Taylor Renfroe earned the conference’s weekly accolades.
Football Offensive Player of the Week
Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina
(RS Sr., QB – Indian Trail, N.C.)
Chanticleers redshirt senior quarterback Grayson McCall threw for a career-high 373 yards in Coastal Carolina’s 27-24 win at App State on Tuesday—the Chanticleers first in seven trips to Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Indian Trail, N.C., native completed 19-of-28 passes, including his first nine for 220 yards in the first half. The three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year threw a pair of touchdown passes and led the 11-play, 77-yard drive that set up the game-winning 24-yard field goal as time expired.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Richard Jibunor, Troy
(Sr., BAN – Delta State, Nigeria)
Trojans senior bandit Richard Jibunor led the Troy defensive unit in a 19-0 shutout of Army—the first shutout of the Black Knights at home since 2003 and the first overall since 2014. The Delta State, Nigeria, native forced two fumbles, recorded a pair of sacks and finished with five tackles, including two tackles for loss, in the dominant outing. The Trojans defense has allowed a combined 10 points over the past three games—the fewest allowed by a Troy team in a three-game span since 1985. Jibunor helped Troy hold Army to just 255 yards of total offense, the sixth opponent out of seven this season to not reach the 300-yard mark.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Scott Taylor Renfroe, Troy
(So., K – Troy, Ala.)
Trojans sophomore kicker Scott Taylor Renfroe accounted for 13-of-19 points in the Trojans 19-0 shutout of Army. The Troy, Ala., product tied the program record with four field goals, doing so in the driving rain in West Point, N.Y. The game was Renfroe’s sixth this season with multiple field goals—tied for the most by a Trojan since at least 2000—and his second with three-or-more field goals—the second-most by a Troy kicker since at least 2000. His 15 field goals thus far are tied for the most in Sun Belt history through the first seven games of a season.
