WASHINGTON, D.C. – After earning the Sun Belt Conferences second consecutive automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament, Old Dominion fell in the first round to No. 3 Georgetown in overtime on the road.
The Monarchs (13-3-5) earned the automatic bid by winning the Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Tournament in Foley, Ala. and advanced to face the three seed in the first round of the tournament. The Monarchs came out in the first half with momentum as they outshot the Hoyas 10-4.
Old Dominion struck first in the 40th minute as Ashlynn Kulha scored her fourth goal of the season off a free kick from Anna Torslov. The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Georgetown (13-1-7) outshot the Monarchs 16-0 in the second half and found the equalizer in the 72nd minute off a corner kick. Old Dominion goalkeeper Emily Bredek provided seven saves in the match as neither team scored in the remainder of regulation to head to overtime.
Both teams tallied one shot in the first overtime, as with just over 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime the Hoyas scored the eventual game-winner, 2-1. Old Dominion challenged No. 3 seed Georgetown to its only overtime match of the season.
