Sun Belt Welcomes Two New Men’s Basketball Coaches For 2023-24 Season

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference welcomes two new men’s basketball coaches for the 2023-24 season – Bryan Hodgson at Arkansas State and Charlie Henry at Georgia Southern. Both join the Sun Belt from the University of Alabama where they served as assistant coaches for the Crimson Tide.
 
Bryan Hodgson, Arkansas State
Bryan Hodgson was named the 17th head coach in Arkansas State history on March 22, 2023. He spent the last four seasons as assistant coach at the University of Alabama.
 
Hodgson also worked on the staffs at the University of Buffalo (2015-19), Midland (Texas) Junior College (2013-15), Jamestown (NY) Community College (2010-13) and Fredonia State University (2007-10).
 
Hodgson was recently tabbed as the No. 2 recruiter nationally by 247sports.com and played a key role in bringing in top-15 national classes in each of his four seasons at Alabama. Hodgson boasts 15-plus years of collegiate coaching experience, including coaching in six of the last seven NCAA Tournaments.
 
Hodgson has worked with four players selected in the NBA Draft, two Conference Players of the Year, and two Conference Defensive Players of the Year.
 
In 2019, Hodgson was named to The Athletic’s list of 25 up-and-coming college basketball coaches, and in 2016, he was named to the Under Armour 30-under-30 Team.  
 
Charlie Henry, Georgia Southern
Charlie Henry was selected as the 16th head coach in Georgia Southern history on March 14, 2023.  For the past four seasons, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama.
 
Henry was the head coach of the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G-League from 2917-19. He has also served as an assistant coach on the staffs of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls (2015-17) and at Iowa State University (2014-15).
 
Henry has worked with a number of notable NBA All-Stars including Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose and Dwayne Wade. He has also been a college assistant coach to seven players who were selected in the NBA Draft. 
 
Henry played an important role in recruiting four top-15 national classes at Alabama, including three consecutive top-10 classes. Henry is known for his prowess on the defensive side of the ball, including coaching Alabama’s Herbert Jones to the first-ever Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in the program’s history. The Crimson Tide ranked in the top-10 nationally in a number of defensive categories during Henry’s time in Tuscaloosa.
