Louisiana's Mihyia Davis Named New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award Winner

OKLAHOMA CITY – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and New Balance announced the yearly New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe award winner along with the NFCA All-America selections on Wednesday, May 31 at the WCWS All-America press conference. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball freshman outfielder Mihyia Davis was the recipient of the 2023 New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe award.

The award is selected by NFCA divisional committees across all divisions and recognizes the nation's most prolific base stealer when accounting for strength of schedule and other statistical categories.

Davis, also named to the NFCA All-America Third Team on Wednesday, led the Division I Softball ranks with 52 stolen bases during the spring 2023 campaign. She is 14 stolen bases clear of the highest active student-athlete left playing at the WCWS.

The Lovelady, Texas product became only the third Ragin' Cajun in program history to reach 50 stolen bases in a single season, joining Keeli Milligan and Dorsey Steamer. She recorded 52 stolen bases in 60 attempts (87 percent success rate) in her collegiate debut campaign, marking the second-most collected in a single season in Louisiana's program history (1981-present).

The slap-hit specialist finished her rookie season also leading Louisiana with 22 multiple-hit games, 70 total hits and a .380 average. She posted multiple steals in a game 12 times and was the first freshman to reach 70 hits since 2014 (Haley Hayden).

The Golden Shoe award adds to Davis' lengthy list of collegiate debut season honors that also includes: NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist, Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Sun Belt, NFCA All-Central Region First Team and NFCA All-America Third Team.

This spring, Louisiana (50-16, 22-2 Sun Belt) collected its fourth consecutive Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships, the program's first 50-win season since 2019 and the first super regional appearance since 2016. The Ragin' Cajuns continued impressive streaks of consecutive Sun Belt series won (now 81 straight) and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (now 24 straight) and attained a No. 11 RPI rating.
