Georgia State’s Brown & App State’s Studney Claim First Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Georgia State’s Valissa Brown and App State’s Ava Studney have earned recognition as the first Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week this season.

Georgia State’s Valissa Brown opened the season with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.40 time at the Clemson Opener. Later in the meet, Brown also finished fourth overall in the long jump event, posting 5.72m (18-9.25) which ranks third in the league.

Ava Studney, App State

App State junior Ava Studney opened the indoor track & field season with a broken Holmes Center facility record in the women's pole vault after recording a clearance of 4.03m (13-2.5) to clinch first in the event at the John Weaver Invitational over the weekend. The previous facility record was 3.96m (13-0.25) and was set in 2013. Studney, who matched the App State program record for the indoor pole vault last season with a clearance of 4.06m (13-3.75), leads the Sun Belt, stands third in the NCAA Southeast Region, and rounds out the NCAA's top-10 in the women's pole vault category.
