Texas State’s Parra and Duron Earn Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Weekly Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – Texas State’s Abigail Parra and Melanie Duron have earned recognition as the Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances over the last week. 

Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Abigail Parra, Texas State

Texas State’s Abigail Parra delivered a historic performance in the women’s 3000 meters at the Ted Nelson Invitational, finishing third overall behind two Texas A&M athletes while shattering the Texas State program record with a time of 9:29.24. Parra broke the previous school record by more than 10 seconds, marking one of the most significant time drops in program history. Her performance currently ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference, where she holds a 15.43-second lead over the next-fastest conference mark this season.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Melanie Duron, Texas State

Texas State’s Melanie Duron claimed the shot put title at the Ted Nelson Invitational with a mark of 16.58 m/54-4.75, leading the field and delivering one of the top throws in program history. Her mark currently ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference and 17th nationally, while also standing as the fifth-best throw all-time at Texas State.
