HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In a rematch of last year’s title match, top-seeded Georgia State defeated third-seeded Coastal Carolina, 3-1, in the title match to secure back-to-back Sun Belt Conference beach volleyball championships Saturday afternoon at John Hunt Park.
Georgia State earns the Sun Belt’s automatic berth to the 2024 NCAA National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship, to be held May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Georgia State got the afternoon started with a straight-set win on court four from Elisa Saga and Aliisa Vuorinen, but Coastal Carolina evened the overall match, 1-1, when Sarah Riedell and Martine Kragholm did the same on court one.
The Panthers inched closer when Lila Bordis and Aree Keller closed out court two in straight sets, before Destiny White and Savannah Ebarb clinched the match on court three.
Coastal Carolina defeated second-seeded UNCW, 3-2, on Saturday morning to punch its ticket to the championship match. The Chanticleers earned a trio of straight-set victories on courts one, two and five, respectively, to clinch the victory.
