NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama’s Mackenzie Brasher and Louisiana’s Sam Landry made key contributions en route to the Sun Belt weekly accolades, presented by BankPlus. For Landry, the honor marks her third of the season.

Mackenzie Brasher was instrumental in helping the Jaguars capture a road series victory over in-state rival Troy over the weekend. The graduate senior was 6-for-12 at the plate (.500), scored three runs, drove in four and stole a pair of bases, while playing errorless ball in centerfield. Brasher recorded at least one hit in all three games of the series and reached base safely in eight of her 14 plate appearances. After recording a hit in the series opener on Friday, Brasher provided the spark at the top of the South Alabama lineup in game two to help the Jaguars even the series with a 6-3 victory. The Orange Beach, ala., native was 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored. Brasher set the tone right out of the gate as she led off the contest with an infield hit and then stole her 25th base of the spring to move into scoring position. Two batters later, she came home on Gabby Stagner’s home run. Brasher led off the second with another hit and later came home to score again on a third-strike, wild pitch. In the third, Brasher brought in a pair of runs when she lined a single down the third-base line, extending the South Alabama advantage to four (6-2). The four hits marked Brasher’s team-best 14th multi-hit game of the spring and were a new career best. In the series finale, Brasher scored the first run of the game when she came home on Stagner’s third-inning double to give South the early lead. After Troy had tied the game up, Brasher delivered a two-run, two-out triple – the first of her Jag career – giving South the lead for good. Brasher later walked, stole her 26th base of the season and then crossed the plate again on another wild pitch.

Sam Landry steered Louisiana to completing an undefeated five-game week by closing with 14-2/3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched over three appearances in the Sun Belt Conference series at ULM. After changing the momentum with a five-inning relief effort in a Cajuns comeback win at McNeese, Landry picked up where she left off during the series opener at ULM by scattering three hits over 4-2/3 innings of scoreless relief to quiet the Warhawks after a four-run third. She followed with a complete game, one-hit shutout of ULM on Saturday as Louisiana clinched the SBC regular season title outright. Landry carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning and yielded only one baserunner (via error) the rest of the way. She posted two separate streaks of seven consecutive batters retired in collecting her 20th win of the season and 30th all-time in SBC play. Landry wrapped up a dominant effort in Monroe, in which she held the Warhawks to five hits on a .106 average, with three strikeouts over three additional scoreless innings. For the week, Landry handled 20-1/3 innings of work (out of 35 total) surrendering just three earned runs, 11 hits and holding foes to a .162 average.
