UCF, Marshall & West Virginia Advance in NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

NEW ORLEANS - UCF, Marshall and West Virginia advance into the second round of the NCAA men's soccer tournament. 

All three matchs will take place on Sunday and are available on ESPN+. 

UCF 3, FAU 2 | Box Score

The 2025 Sun Belt men’s soccer tournament champions took down the American Conference champions as UCF defeated FAU 3-2 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

The Knights got off to an early 2-0 in the first half with goals by Clarance Awoudor and Joey Mueller.

The Owls would open the scoring in the second half to cut the deficit to one, down 2-1. The Sun Belt’s Newcomer of the Year Lilian Ricol would net his 13th goal of the season to put UCF back up by two with just over 30 minutes to play.

FAU would net a second goal in the 80th minute but would be held off by UCF who would win the match 3-2.

UCF advances on and will face No. 7 Georgetown on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT.
 
West Virginia 4, St. Johns 3 (OT) | Box Score

West Virginia was down 2-0 before mounting a comeback that would lead to a 4-3 overtime victory over St. Johns.

St. Johns led the match 1-0 at the half and went up 2-0 with a goal to open scoring in the second half. 18 minutes later Marcus Caldeira would net his first goal of the game, followed by a goal from Nicola Scargle to even the score, 2-2.

Two minutes after Scargle’s goal, St. Johns would net one of their own to regain the lead. Not looking to have their season come to an end, Caldeira found the back of the net with just over three minutes remaining, sending the match to overtime.

Nearly four minutes into the overtime period Caldeira would dribble through multiple St. Johns’ defenders and send the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring the golden goal and netting a hat trick.

The hat trick brings Caldeira to 41 goals in his career, which continues to lead all active players who have played exclusively in Division I.

The Mountaineers will have a rematch with High Point in the second round, a team they faced earlier in the season that ended in a 2-2 draw.
 
Marshall 1, Cleveland State 0 | Box Score

In their seventh straight NCAA tournament appearance, Marshall advances to the second round after a 1-0 victory over Cleveland State.

The Herd outshot their opponent 14-6 and had a 4-1 shot on goal advantage in the victory. The shutout marked their seventh of the year, second most in the Sun Belt.

Marshall will face No. 15 NC State on Sunday at 5 p.m. CT.
 
Kentucky 1, Saint Louis 2 | Box Score

Kentucky’s season came to an end in Saint Louis after a 1-2 loss in overtime.

The Wildcats led 1-0 most of the match having scored just four minutes into the match. Saint Louis wouldn’t respond until the final five minutes of the match with a goal of their own to send it into overtime.

Neither team would score in the first overtime, but Saint Louis would get past Sebastian Conlon in the second overtime, ending Kentucky’s season.
