App State All-American Dada-Mascoll Concludes Run in NCAA Singles Quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS - Just two days after securing ITA All-America distinction, App State women’s tennis senior Savannah Dada-Mascoll’s historic run at the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships came to an end in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Dada-Mascoll is the first App State player in program history to achieve All-America status and the second Sun Belt Conference women’s tennis standout in the last three seasons to accomplish the feat after Old Dominion’s Sophia Johnson reached the round of 16 at the 2023-24 NCAA Singles Championships.

“It’s exciting for me, but also for the program,” Dada-Mascoll said after earning All-America honors on Wednesday. “I want to set a standard that App State tennis players can compete at the highest level and should be considered great tennis players, too. One of my goals is leaving the program better than when I came in.”

The No. 4 overall seed in the tournament, Dada-Mascoll was one of just eight players from a non-autonomy conference to earn a spot in the NCAA’s 64-player draw, earning the highest seed among those selections. She was also the only player from that group to reach the quarterfinals.

In Friday’s quarterfinal, Dada-Mascoll won the first set, 6-4, against Emily Welker of Ole Miss, before dropping the second frame, 6-3. In the third set, Dada-Mascoll secured an early break and eventually held a 5-3 lead before Welker stormed back to win the final four games, the set and the match.

In Thursday’s round of 16 match, Dada-Mascoll split the first two sets against the nation’s No. 47 player, Emily Charney of USC. Despite dropping the second set and trailing, 3-0, in the third, she won six-straight games to complete the comeback victory.

Dada-Mascoll earned straight-set victories in the first two rounds of the tournament against opponents from California and Clemson on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

A three-time All-Sun Belt Conference First Team performer in singles, Dada-Mascoll qualified for the NCAA Championships following a memorable run at the ITA All-American Championships in October, when she defeated five ranked opponents, including Auburn's Ashton Bennett, who held the No. 1 national ranking.

Ranked No. 106 nationally in the ITA’s preseason singles rankings, Dada-Mascoll carried her momentum into the 2025 ITA Regional Championships where she was crowned a singles co-champion with a run to the final that wasn't contested. She defeated three more ranked opponents in that tournament, including a victory over No. 12 Theadora Rabman of North Carolina.
