Texas State Captures Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Crown

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time since 2019, the Texas State Bobcats captured the 2025 Sun Belt Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship, contested at the Birmingham CrossPlex. 
 
With 108 team points, the Bobcats won their fifth overall title. Southern Miss finished second with 93 points as App State rounded out the top three with 82.
 
App State’s Jasmine Donohue was named the women’s top meet scorer with 24 points accumulated over the championship.
 
During the championship, 78 student-athletes recorded season best marks as a staggering 277 personal best marks were recorded over the two days. Over the past four years, 43 new meet records have been posted.
 
The women’s mile kicked off competition on Tuesday, as Marshall’s Kylee Mastin set another meet record with a time of 4:44.85. Texas State’s Abigail Parra earned the silver medal in 4:46.62 as App State’s Donohue earned the bronze in 4:47.67.
 
The women’s 60m saw Georgia Southern’s Shatalya Dorsett earn the gold with a personal best 7.33. Southern Miss’ Trinity Flagler earned silver with a personal best 7.351 as Georgia Southern’s Naj Watson earned bronze with a 7.360, which tied her personal best.
 
A pair of personal best finishes highlighted the women’s 60m hurdles as Coastal Carolina’s Amanda Kinloch won gold with a personal best time of 8.16. James Madison’s Jordyn Henderson finished second with a personal best time of 8.28. Georgia State’s Kayli Williams finished third in 8.41.
 
The women’s 400m saw a pair of Golden Eagles finish on the Podium. Southern Miss’ Kennedi Sanders won the gold in a personal best time of 54.17 as her teammate Addison McLaurin earned the bronze with a personal best time of 54.67. James Madison’s Holly Mpassy earned the silver with a season best 54.63.
 
Southern Miss’ Jaellene Burgess earned the gold with a personal best time of 2:07.70 in the women’s 800m. Texas State’s Abigail Parra earned the silver with a personal best time of 2:09.61. Coastal Carolina’s Amilia Wise-Sweat earned the bronze with 2:10.01.
 
Taejha Badal gave the Bobcats 10 team points with a gold medal performance in the women’s 200m in a personal best time of 23.37. Georgia Southern’s Maj Watson earned silver as she tied her personal best at 23.38. Maleah Heard from Georgia State earned the bronze with a personal best time of 23.54.
 
Marshall’s Mastin won the 3000m in a time of 9:34.17 as App State took the final two podium finishes. Jasmine Donohue earned the silver in 9:43.26 as her teammate Lauren Johnston earned bronze in 9:44.25.
 
The women’s high jump featured a trio of Bobcats who finished in the top eight as Louisiana’s Alaysha Veal stood atop the podium with a personal best mark of 1.77m/5-9.75. Texas State’s Finenye Uzoh earned the silver with a personal best mark of 1.74m/5-8.5 with Arkansas State’s Kiara Strayhorn also earning the personal best mark to earn bronze.
 
The Bobcats pulled away in the women’s shot put with four scoring finishes. Texas State’s Melanie Duron set a new meet and league record with a personal best mark of 18.21m/59-9 to claim the gold. Arkansas State’s Michelle Ogbemudia finished second with a personal best throw of 16.37m/53-8.5. Texas State’s Lauryn Small recorded a season best 15.49m/50-10 to earn the bronze.
 
Arkansas State’s Carly Pujul won the women’s pole vault, however she tied with a clearance of 4.18m/13-8.5 to set a new meet record with Lilly Nichols from App State. South Alabama’s Diana Goodman recorded a personal best result to earn the bronze by clearing 3.98m/13-0.75.
 
Southern Miss’ Za’Isha Fraser leaped a season best 12.93m/42-5.25 in the women’s triple jump final to earn the gold medal. Texas State’s Precious Okougbodu won silver with a distance of 12.89m/32-3.5. Georgia Southern’s Imani Moore rounded out the top three with a mark of 12.70m/41-8.
 
The final event of the championship marked the women’s 4x400, where the Golden Eagles from Southern Miss ran a time equal to its season best 3:41.49. App State also ran a season best time to earn silver in 3:45.19. Louisiana made a podium appearance in the same event to earn bronze in 3:45.65.
 
The 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are slated for March 14-15 at The Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The NCAA will announce selections on March 4.
