Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Kicks Off First Weekend of Conference Action

NEW ORLEANS – The 2025 Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer league schedule gets underway with seven weekend contests beginning with four matches on Saturday, Sept. 12 and three matchups on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Three East Division and three West Division contests are included in the first weekend slate, along with one cross-division battle, as all seven matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

UNBEATEN STREAK RESUMES
After completing a sweep of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles, James Madison carries over an unbeaten streak against conference opponents. The Dukes compiled an 8-0-2 regular season record last season – including a 6-0-0 mark against East Division foes – and are unbeaten in their last 11 league matches dating back to a 1-0 home win over Coastal Carolina on Oct. 26, 2023. The Dukes host the Chanticleers again in Harrisonburg, Va., on Saturday evening. James Madison and App State are the only two Sun Belt programs to win their first Sun Belt match in each of the last three seasons.

SCORING STREAK SHOWDOWN
The Sun Belt’s top two goal scorers will square off when Troy senior forward Jiselle Daniels leads the Trojans into Jonesboro, Ark., Sunday afternoon to face Arkansas State junior midfielder Kennedy Horn and the Red Wolves. Daniels and Horn each have seven goals this season, as Daniels has registered all of her tallies in her last five appearances. Horn has been similarly consistent, scoring all seven goals in each of her team’s last four contests. Additionally, Horn ranks No. 2 nationally in goals per game (1.40) just ahead of Daniels who ranks fourth (1.17). Horn is coming off the first four-goal performance by a Sun Belt player since the 2014 season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (9/7) last Sunday, as Daniels began her scoring streak with consecutive two-goal efforts against Alcorn State (8/17) and Southeastern Louisiana (8/22).

AUTONOMY OPPONENT ATTRITION
Sun Belt women’s soccer teams have established a strong showing against autonomy conference opponents during the 2025 season’s non-conference slate, capturing six wins and playing to three draws. Overall, the Sun Belt has compiled a 2-0-1 record against Big Ten Conference teams, a 3-3 record against the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) along with one win and two draws against the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Old Dominion owns wins over Maryland (2-0) and No. 20 Virginia Tech (2-1), while James Madison holds victories against NC State (3-0) and Maryland (1-0). Additionally, App State topped Miami (1-0), and Georgia State outlasted Florida (2-1). In the draws column, James Madison earned a 1-1 tie at No. 9 Penn State, while Texas State played to a pair of 1-1 final scores against No. 19 Oklahoma and at Texas A&M.

ACCURACY ON THE ATTACK
Three Sun Belt forwards are among the NCAA Division I leaders in shots on goal per game, led by Troy senior Jiselle Daniels who ranks third (2.67). Preseason Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and sophomore Ginny Lackey of James Madison ranks seventh (2.38), and Arkansas State sophomore Lucia Flores follows in 12th (2.20).
