West Virginia Sweeps Sun Belt Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

NEW ORLEANS – West Virginia’s Marcus Caldeira and Thijs Veldhorst earn Sun Belt men’s soccer weekly honors.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Marcus Caldeira, West Virginia
(Sr. | F | Mississauga, Ontario, Canada)
 
Caldeira recorded nine points over two games to earn offensive player of the week. The senior scored one goal and had three assists in the Mountaineers 5-2 win over Manhattan and two goals in a victory over La Salle. Caldeira now has the most career goals among active players with 31.  

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Thijs Veldhorst, West Virginia
(Jr. | D | Nijmegen, Netherlands)

Veldhorst contributed to two shutouts for the Mountaineers this week against La Salle and then on the road at No. 16 Akron. He also scored his first goal of the season against the Explorers. He played 157 minutes this week, including the full 90 against the Zips.
