Active Win Streaks Highlight Opening Week of Sun Belt Women’s Volleyball League Action

NEW ORLEANS – The first week of Sun Belt volleyball action will feature 14 divisional matches. Nine teams enter the week on active win streaks as four teams look to claim a double digit win total. 13 of the 14 matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • BIG WINS – Sun Belt programs accumulated seven wins over autonomy four opponents in the regular season with Arkansas State notching the lone ranked win over then No. 16 Missouri at home. The Red Wolves split the series with Tigers winning the opener 3-2, before falling 3-2 the next day. App State and Old Dominion joined Arkansas State with autonomy victories in the final weekend of regular season play, as the Red Wolves went on the road and defeated in-state opponent Arkansas 3-1. App State and Old Dominion defeated a pair of ACC opponents with the Mountaineers claiming victory over Duke and the Monarchs handing NC State its second loss to a Sun Belt program.
 
  • NATIONAL STAGE – Several Sun Belt student-athletes enter league play ranked amongst the very best in the sport across various statistical categories. James Madison’s Kennedy Louisell tops the nation in total kills (232) and total points (249.5), while being third in kills per set at 5.16. All three categories lead the league. Georgia State’s Marta Lazzarin ranks second nationally in digs per set at a 5.74 clip as she leads the league with 224 total digs and ranks 17th. ULM’s Morgan Howard ranks third in the nation with a league-best 31 service aces. Coastal Carolina’s Anna Rita moved into the top ten in total blocks at 65, as App State’s Maya Winterhoff ranks 11th with 63. Winterhoff also leads the league in hitting percentage at .461 and ranks second nationally.
 
  • DEFENSIVE POWER – Five Sun Belt programs rank in the top 50 in digs per set, as Georgia State leads the league at 17.10 and ranks seventh. Georgia Southern ranks 8th (17.08) as Southern Miss ranks 12th (16.78). Marshall (36th, 15.69) and ULM (49th, 15.47) join the trio. At the net, four programs rank inside the top 85 in total blocks. App State and Coastal Carolina sit tied for 28th at 112.0 as Arkansas State ranks 42nd at 107. James Madison rounds out the grouping at 84th with 99.
 
  • STOUT PERFORMANCE – Coastal Carolina’s Jalyn Stout continues her storied career after the NCAA Record Book this season. The junior setter has broken the single season NCAA Division I triple-doubles record in each of her first two seasons. During her freshman campaign, she recorded 14 to become the new single season record holder. Stout added to the record during her sophomore season with 20 to extend her career mark and become the all-time NCAA Division I triple-double’s leader at 34. This season, she has recorded five additional triple-doubles heading into league play, and currently sits tied with the NCAA record across all divisions for career triple-doubles with 39. Over the last two seasons, 26 of her 34 triple-doubles occurred during Sun Belt play.
