Stakes Rise Atop Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Standings Entering Week Eight of League Play

NEW ORLEANS - Sun Belt women's basketball enters the home stretch as teams continue to make a push up the league standings.  

GAME OF THE WEEK
Arkansas State (20-5, 11-1) and Marshall (20-6, 10-3) are two of the top teams in the league and will meet for the only time in the regular season this Saturday in Huntington. The two teams are the only two in the league thus far to reach 20 overall wins while having at least 10 conference wins. Arkansas State is currently on a five-game road trip and coming off a 73-76 overtime loss to Eastern Michigan. Arkansas State has the second most productive offense in the league, averaging 78.2 points per game with two players, Zyion Shannon (13.0) and Crislyn Rose (12.9), averaging double-digits. Marshall was one of five Sun Belt teams to get a win on the road this weekend in the MAC-SBC Challenge, thanks to a career performance from Timaya Lewis-Eutsey. The Herd are riding a three-game win streak heading into the match-up and hold a 11-2 record on their home floor.
 
PLAYERS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Multiple Sun Belt players rank within the top 10 of the national rankings at this point in the season. Troy’s Zay Dyer has 16 double-doubles on the season which ties for the second most in the country with three other players. The forward is also fourth in total rebounds (295) and 5th in rebounds per game (12.3). Dyer’s teammate Emani Jenkins is tied for sixth in three pointers per game (3.08) and total three pointers (172). Marshall’s Timaya Lewis-Eutsey ranks fourth in the country in steals (95) and sixth in steals per game (3.65) and sixth in free throws made (176). Riley Stack of Old Dominion ranks third in blocks (66) and sixth in blocks per game (2.64).
 
LEADING THE HERD
Marshall’s Lewis-Eutsey earned national attention as she was selected as one of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Ann Meyers Drysdale national women’s honorees of the week. This is the first national honor for any Sun Belt player this season. Lewis-Eutsey is one of six players in the country to have five 30-point games this season. With her performance on Sunday, she joined All-American Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame as the only players in DI with 35 points and eight steals in a game this season. The New Jersey native leads all players in scoring (21.0), assists (5.4) and steals (3.4) in Sun Belt league play.
 
IN THE NET
Five Sun Belt teams rank in the top 100 of the NET. James Madison has the best NET at 52, followed by Troy (65), Georgia Southern (83), Arkansas State (87) and Marshall (94).

BACK ON SCHEDULE
Arkansas State at Georgia Southern was rescheduled to Feb. 11 in the wake of hazardous conditions caused by wintry weather. The matchup will mark the lone regular-season meeting between teams. Arkansas State has one 11-straight conference games, while Georgia Southern have won five consecutive league games.

PARTY IN PENSACOLA
The 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Championship presented by Air Force Reserve will be held March 3-9, 2026 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla., The championship game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 on Monday, March 9. The 2026 tournament will mark the sixth consecutive season the Sun Belt hosts the event in Pensacola, which will remain at the venue through the 2029-30 campaign. A different program has been crowned champion in each of the first five years in Pensacola: Arkansas State (2025), Marshall (2024), James Madison (2023), UTA (2022) and Troy (2021).
