South Alabama’s Maeda and Rovira Earn Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama’s Rio Maeda was joined by her teammate Jana Rovira as the pair swept Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Week honors.

South Alabama’s Rio Maeda led the Jaguars to a 2-0 finish in singles on the week with a pair of wins in straight sets against opponents from Campbell and #74 Elon. Maeda also won both of her doubles matches to finish the week a perfect 4-0. The sophomore from Tokyo, Japan has led South Alabama to a 10-0 record this season after the pair of wins.

Rio Maeda / Jana Rovira, South Alabama
 
South Alabama’s pairing of Rio MaedaRovira led the Jaguars to victories over #74 Elon and Campbell. The pair defeated the duo from Elon 6-3 on court two as the team earned the 4-3 victory. Maeda and Rovira followed up with a 6-3 win over Campbell as the team earned the 5-1 win. South Alabama is 10-0 for the season.
