Texas State Wins Seventh Consecutive; Improves to 2-0 in League Play
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team won its second conference match of the weekend Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 overtime victory against Arkansas State. Senior Lynsey Curry secured the win for the Bobcats with the deciding goal in the 92nd minute.
With the victory, Texas State extends its winning streak to seven matches and is now 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play and 8-2 overall. The victory also marked the first win of the season for when the Bobcats trail at the half.
Arkansas State got the scoring started just before halftime when Jaymee Luke converted a shot into the right side of the goal off of a throw in in the 44th minute.
Curry continued her hot start to conference play with a header in the 51st minute to equalize the score at 1-1.
In the 81st minute, Arkansas State regained the lead when Jordan Adams headed home a goal off of a throw in from Kassie Flynn. The Bobcats quickly answered to tie the match in the 83rd minute when Lauren Prater broke away and landed a shot in the top left corner of the goal to bring the score to 2-2. The goal was Prater's eighth of the season and first of conference play.
After playing 104 minutes on Friday, Texas State entered its second-straight overtime match. The winning goal came just two minutes into overtime when Curry won a battle for the ball and buried her second goal of the match. Prater assisted the shot that struck the back right of the net.
Caitlynn Rinehart pulled in four saves and earned her eighth victory of the season. She played all 92 minutes of the match. The Bobcats finished the contest outshooting the Red Wolves, 21-11, and in all, Texas State had 14 corners compared to just four by the Red Wolves.
The Bobcats will now take next Friday evening off before traveling to Appalachian State Sunday afternoon. Kick-off against the Mountaineers is scheduled for 12 p.m. central time.
Panthers Open League Play 2-0 in First conference Weekend
ATLANTA- The Georgia State women’s soccer team started their conference schedule off strong, coming away with two wins at home this weekend following a 3-1 win over UL Lafayette on Sunday. The Panthers to improved to 2-0 in the Sun Belt and 8-1-2 overall.
The Panthers maintained the ball for the majority of the game, holding the Ragin’ Cajuns to just eight shots. Georgia State set a season high for shots in a game with 33, surpassing the previous high of 23 shots at Alabama A&M.
Junior Suzanne Arafa had the first goal of the game after just 13 minutes of play, her sixth of the season.
After going into the half leading UL Lafayette 1-0, the Ragin’ Cajuns scored to tie the game 1-1.
Back-to-back goals by Caitlin Ray and Kylie Ruffule sealed the win for the Panthers, with the goals coming just three minutes apart. It was Ray’s second game-winning goal of the weekend, and her fourth goal of the season. Ruffule’s goal was her second of the season, coming with an assist from Alexis Thomas.
“This weekend was a great way to open conference play, and coming out with six points is fantastic. I’m really pleased with the way the girls are playing and hopefully we can match it next weekend in Arkansas,” head coach Derek Leader said of the win.
Georgia State heads to Arkansas next weekend to play Arkansas State and Little Rock.

Mountaineers, Trojans Draw Even on Sunday
BOONE, N.C. — For the second time the second time this weekend, Appalachian State University women's soccer played through steady rainfall at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. The Mountaineers (5-3-3) tied Little Rock, 1-1, after battling through two overtime periods.
"Little Rock defended well as a unit and capitalized on their biggest chance off the set piece," said Sarah Strickland. "I believe we worked hard, defended well as a unit, but we could have shown more composure in the final third."
The first half was a defensive struggle with neither team creating many scoring opportunities. There were six shots and three on goal between the two teams.
The Trojans (5-5-2) scored the opening goal of the game after an App State foul gave them a free kick. Mikayla Uyokpeyi was able to get the ball over the Mountaineer goal line in the 42nd. The assist was credited to Caitlin Eddy. The goal sent the Apps into the locker room down, 1-0.
The Mountaineer defense turned up the intensity and allowed just three more shots the rest of the game, none of which were on target.
Jane Cline brought the Apps back level in the 66th minute with her second goal of the weekend. Cline received a pass in the box from Aubrey Fletcher out wide. Cline settled the ball a drove a low shot just inside the near post. The equalizing goal was Cline's third of the year.
The Mountaineers best scoring opportunity in overtime came in the second period. Emmily Cowie was on the end of a long pass down the right side. Cowie's shot was saved by the keeper and a follow up shot by Kebrina Keys was blocked by the Little Rock defense.
The final whistle blew with the score still level and 1-1, giving the Apps one Sun Belt Conference point to go along with the three they picked up with the win on Friday night versus Arkansas State.
Strickland liked the way her team played through the elements.
"We showed character in playing beyond the factors that were out of our control today. Every game brings out adversity and some of those reasons for adversity you have to play beyond and realize you cannot change them. "We will continue to work to improve ourselves and prepare for Texas State next weekend."
The Mountaineers continue their Sun Belt schedule next Sunday when they take on Texas State. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
