"It was great to get a result tonight," said head coach Sarah Strickland. "UMBC is a great team and definitely battled and created a lot of opportunities."

O’Dwyer’s Overtime Header Fuels ULM Past NSU, 2-1
MONROE, La. – Trailing 1-0 at half, senior Mariah Mitchell scored the equalizer to push the game into overtime, and senior Kelley O’Dwyer headed in the game-winner to lift the ULM soccer program to a big come-from-behind, 2-1 victory over Northwestern State on Friday at the ULM Soccer Complex.
O’Dwyer, from Sugar Land, Texas, was in position in the middle of the box when senior Karlea Fehr crossed in a high ball from the left. O’Dwyer leaped above an NSU (2-2-1) defender and drilled the lower right corner for the golden goal win for ULM (3-3).
It marked the ninth career goal for O’Dwyer and her third game-winner. Fehr registered the assist to up her all-time leading tally to 19 at ULM.
“It was a great win for our program coming from behind tonight. I give all the credit to our players for fighting their way back in the second half,” said ULM head coach Roberto Mazza.
The Warhawks trailed 1-0 at the intermission when Mitchell knotted it up in the 78th minute. After a scuffle at the top of the penalty box, O’Dwyer was able to poke back a ball to Mitchell who stepped up and fired a rocket into the lower left corner.
It was the second goal of the season for Mitchell and eighth of her career. O’Dwyer dished out her 11th career assist.
“I can see why NSU tied LSU. [NSU] makes it very difficult to play because they are a very organized and energetic team. We made a few adjustments in the second half and the players executed,” Mazza said.
ULM extended its home-winning streak to three games. It also marked the third consecutive win over Northwestern State dating back to 2013.
O’Dwyer recorded a game-high four shots with two of them on net. Fehr fired three shots, Mitchell two and junior Nancy Kirk two.
Juniors Mary Ashton Lembo and Whitney Tuckfield, sophomore Danielle LaFrance and freshman Kelsey Dazalla played the entire game for the Warhawks. Lembo, Tuckfield, Dazalla and junior Jenna Pillon continued their streak of starting every game this season.
In net, Julia Idalis Gonzalez (2-1) picked up the win after making six saves. Alex Latham (0-1-1) took the loss after entering at halftime for the Lady Demons.
“This is a type of win that can spark a team’s momentum and belief in one another. I am very pleased with how our players dealt with adversity tonight,” Mazza said.
NSU’s goal came in the 23rd minute on a low shot by Brittany Caserma that trickled under Gonzalez’s hands. Payton Roney was credited with the assist.
The Warhawks will close out the weekend at home on Sunday when they host Southeastern Louisiana at 1:00 p.m. at the ULM Soccer Complex.

Trojans Blank Austin Peay in Jaguars Classic, 4-0
MOBILE, Alabama – Chelsey Williams scored a career-high three goals, including the game-winner, as the Troy soccer team shut out Austin Peay, 4-0, in the Jaguar Classic opener on Friday afternoon at The Cage.
Williams is the first player to record a hat trick since Maddie Tieken did it in 2010 against Wofford.
Williams took no time in scoring the first goal for Troy (5-1) as Brooke McKee made a run towards the end line and crossed the ball in to Williams who placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 2nd minute of the match.
McKee had her first career multi-assist game as she found Williams off a cross that gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead in the 10th minute.
The final goal from Williams came in the 59th minute as she eluded a defender for a breakaway goal, that she placed past the keeper.
"Playing up top allowed more opportunities to score and the goals just came," Williams said. "We started well, which gave us momentum throughout the game. If we can take that into every game I think it will help us get better and move forward."
Kirsten Rendall scored her first goal of the season in the 38th minute and gave Troy a 3-0 lead. Robyn-Anne Whittaker found Rendall, who took a shot from 35 yards out that went in after hitting the left post.
"I'm extremely happy with how we came out and played," Jason Hamilton said. "We scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. We made some changes and adjustments in our lineups and moved some players around that we thought would help us offensively as well as defensively."
Mikki Lewis (5-1) recorded eight saves in the match and recorded her third shutout this season.
The Trojans outshot Austin Peay (1-3) 21-11, and 14 of Troy's shots landed on goal. Jasmine Fahrnbauer, McKee and Rendall had three shots each in the match. Williams led all players with four shots.
Troy will wrap up play in the Jaguar Classic at 11 a.m. on Sunday against South Florida, who made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season.
Jaguars Streak Ended at the Hands of South Florida
MOBILE, Ala. – Two second-half goals from South Florida rallied the Bulls from an early deficit to defeat the University of South Alabama soccer team 2-1 at the Jaguar Classic Friday night at The Cage.
The loss is the first in the regular season since Aug. 31, 2014, snapping the Jags' 22-match unbeaten streak. USF keeps an unblemished record at 4-0 while USA drops to 4-1. Both teams were receiving votes in the latest NSCAA top 25 poll.
"Congratulations to South Florida, they're a very good team," Jaguar head coach Graham Winkworth said. "They play a lot on emotion. I felt that they controlled large parts of the game, particularly in the second half. We didn't come out to play in the second half and that's disappointing."
The Bulls scored their goals less than 14 minutes apart and controlled play in the second half, outshooting the Jaguars 13-1 through the first 79 minutes.
"We weren't stepping to win any first balls and we weren't stepping in to win any second balls either," Winkworth stated. "It was coming straight at our backline, we were getting tired and playing deeper and deeper. In the last 15 minutes we came out, pressed them, got the ball forward and did a better job, even when we went down to 10 players.
"Against a side as good as South Florida, we can't give them that much respect when it comes to winning 50-50 challenges.
Leticia Skeete evened the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute off a pass from Olivia Chance, then Ocean Parr beat the USA goalkeeper high from about 25 yards out at the 70:25 mark to put the Bulls on top for good.
The Jaguars were able to threaten late, recording the last three shots of the contest, with two on net from sophomore Ashlynn Jones (Pickerington, Ohio) and freshman Jemma Purfield (Cottingham, England), but could not tie the score.
South Alabama took an early lead off the foot of sophomore Chardé Hannah (Tupelo, Miss.). Hannah took a pass from sophomore Danielle Henley (Hattiesburg, Miss.) off a turnover, got past her defender and beat the goalkeeper low from 18 yards out.
"In the first 20 minutes, the girls did exactly what I asked them to do," Winkworth said. "South Florida sent both of their fullbacks high and we hit them on the break on a couple of occasions. The gameplan for the first 20 minutes was perfect and it's a shame we couldn't sustain it for 90."
South Florida outshot South Alabama 27-8 for the contest with a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal.
The Jaguars return to action Sunday afternoon when they host Austin Peay at 2:30 p.m.
