UL Lafayette Defeats South Alabama On The Road, 3-2
Mobile, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team earned a 3-2 win over Sun Belt Conference leader South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at The Cage.

Louisiana (7-7-1, 3-3-1 SBC) took a 3-1 lead in the 70th minute on a goal by junior Whitney Taggert, her fourth of the season. Junior Ashleigh Cade was credited with her nation leading tenth assist of the season.

South Alabama (9-4-1, 4-2 SBC) answered with a goal in the 84th minute from Jemma Purfield on a deep free kick from the right side.

The Cajuns had key saves from sophomore goalkeeper Cosette Morché in the final minutes to preserve the win. Morché had eight saves in the match.

"I'm just really proud of them because it was just such a great total team effort on the road against a very good team," head coach Scot Wieland said.

South Alabama took an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute on a goal by Monique Autmon off an assist from Ashlynn Jones.

Louisiana scored in the 43rd minute on a goal by junior Haley Boroch off an assist from a corner kick by Yazmin Montoya.

"We earned a corner kick and it's just a matter of people doing their jobs," Wieland said. "Yazmin served in a beautiful ball and Haley did her job."

Louisiana took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute on a goal by Montoya from 30 yards out off an assist from freshman Celine Rumpf. It was Montoya's fifth goal of the season.

Taggert's goal in the 70th minute gave the Ragin' Cajuns a two goal lead.

"Going up 3-1 on the road is massive rather than 2-1," Wieland said. "One goal leads in soccer are not that much. Having that third goal was huge."

Louisiana will face Louisiana Monroe on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a 1 p.m. match at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.

Schneider’s Header Sends @AStateSoccer To Victory
SAN MARCOS, Texas (10/9/16) – Taylor Schneider’s game-winning goal in the 85th minute propelled the Arkansas State women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Texas State Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Red Wolves (5-6-3, 3-4-1 Sun Belt) capped a critical weekend in the Sun Belt Conference by earning six points with a pair of road victories to help vault into the middle of the league standings. The squad began the week fighting to make its way into the top-8 teams in the league in order to make the league’s postseason tournament, but now find themselves in good position with two matches, each at home, left on its schedule.

“The kids have been working hard from the start and when the showed up in the summer to work with our strength and conditioning coach Cody Stout and they were all in then and now they are seeing some validation for all their hard work,” A-State head coach Brian Dooley said. “Now, we just have to make sure that we aren’t stratified with where we are and continue to push to go even further.”

Schneider, who also scored the only goal in Friday night’s win over Louisiana-Lafayette, connected on a header into the top-right corner of the net as time ticked away in regulation. The header was setup by a corner kick off the foot of Bailey Reed, who placed the right amount of arc on the ball to allow Schneider to battle her way through a crowd in front of the head and time her leap to get enough power on the ball to send by the goalkeeper.

The Ballwin, Mo., native leads Arkansas State with four goals on the year, and has scored each of the last goals by the Red Wolves. She also now has moved into a tie for seventh-place on the season for most goals scored by a single player in the conference.

“I had told Bailey to try to curl into the back post because we had the wind in our favor and I thought we might could sneak one by them that way,” Dooley said. “The kick didn’t get the bend it needed, but then I just saw Schneider rise up and put it in.”

A-State took a conservative approach to the game after playing Friday at Lafayette, La., on Friday and then traveling to Texas State after the Bobcats did not play on Friday. The strategy worked as the Red Wolves waited for their opportunity and limited the number dangerous chances by the Bobcats to earn the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Ponder made five saves on the day and helped fight a late surge by Texas State which included three corner kicks in the final four minutes of play. The St. Louis, Mo., ranked second in the NCAA in total saves coming into the weekend and upped her total stops to 102 on the year, which puts her in third place all-time for most saves in a single in A-State history. The record of 108 was set by Susan Brown in the 2009 season.

She also recorded her third clean sheet of the season, which is tied for second most in a single campaign in school history.

Arkansas State took an offensive minded approach to the match early on and held a 3-1 shot advantage midway through the first half. Texas State turned up the pressure offensively, near the end of the half and continued that into the second half.

Sunday’s result also marked the 200th victory of Coach Dooley’s career.

PANTHERS RECORD NINTH SHUTOUT
ATLANTA- The Georgia State women’s soccer team used its ninth shutout of the season to earn a 0-0 double overtime draw against UL Monroe Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers are now 5-3-6 overall (2-1-4 Sun Belt) while the Warhawks are 6-7-2 overall (3-3-1 Sun Belt). The two teams are tied for third in the Sun Belt standings with 10 points each. Georgia State, which is undefeated in its last five matches, has three games remaining in the regular season.

The game started off focused on defense, with Georgia State holding UL Monroe to just one shot in the first half. The Panthers fired three shots, with freshmen Brooke Shank and Erin Rhodes taking all three and both having a shot on target.

The Panthers remained focused on defense in the second half, holding the Warhawks to just two shots. Georgia State took six shots in the last 45 minutes of the match, four of which were on target. UL Monroe’s six saves kept GSU out of the net and forced the match into overtime.

Senior Alexis Thomas took the lone shot in overtime, but the shot went wide and kept the score at a 0-0 draw.

Shank led the team in shots with six, four of which were on goal. She now leads the Panthers in shots with 25 and is tied for first in goals with three.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to not get the win, even though we were able to create some great chances,” head coach Ed Joyce said. “But you can’t be upset with your ninth shutout of the season. Amanda Bruemmer has been fantastic this season, she really anchors us in the back. Now we’re looking forward to traveling to Arkansas this weekend.”

The Panthers close out road play in Arkansas next weekend, playing at Little Rock Friday night and at Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon.

Coastal Carolina Draws Little Rock in Double OT, 2-2
Boone, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team played the Little Rock Trojans to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Appalachian State's Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. The match, like Friday's, was originally set to be a CCU home contest but was played on Appalachian State's campus due to Hurricane Matthew.

With the draw, Coastal Carolina's season record stands at 8-4-2, 5-1-1 in the Sun Belt, while Little Rock is 8-6-1 (4-2-1).

Senior forward Amber Adams led the team with three shots while eight other Chanticleers recorded at least one shot.

Throughout the game, the wind played a major factor in both teams' possession of play.

Little Rock took a 1-nil lead in the first half when Fali Garuba headed in the ball off a corner kick in the 30th minute. The Trojans held the lead throughout the first half.

Early in the second half, Coastal tied the match, 1-1, in the 48th minute. After CCU was fouled near the halfway line, Kylie Bostick lined up to take the free kick. Bostick sent the ball into the box and with help from the wind, the ball carried itself into the net. This was Bostick's first goal as a Chanticleer.

Just one minute later, Little Rock answered with a goal from Arola Aparicio-Gili. A through ball from Doro Greulich put Aparicio-Gili in a 1-v-1 situation and she was able to slide it past CCU goalkeeper Becca Austin for the 2-1 lead.

In the 61st minute, Coastal knotted the game at 2-2. Senior Ellie Taylor sent the ball into the box off a corner kick finding the head off Melanie Flatter. Flatter directed the ball into the corner of the net for the tie.

Each team had threatening scoring opportunities throughout both overtimes but neither could connect in the final third. CCU's best chance came in the second overtime when Adams received the ball over the top to go 1-v-1 with the goaltender but sent the ball high over the crossbar.

Austin finished the game with six saves.
