Troy Routs Alabama State; Little Rock Scores 6 in Win; Panthers Battle to a Tie

Troy Routs Alabama State
TROY, Alabama ­– The Troy soccer team fell behind in just the 6th minute but came roaring back as the Trojans routed Alabama State, 4-1, on Tuesday at the Troy Soccer Complex.

After the Hornets scored in the opening minutes, Troy responded with a goal off the head of Maddie Brune in the 17th minute on a free kick by Alex Huynh; it was Brune's first career goal. Two minutes later, Emily Stearns scored for the first time as a Trojan on shot from the top of the box.

In the 60th minute, Kate Lorenz lobbed a pass to Lynsey Kelly who chested the ball down to Brooke McKee, who dribbled through a pair of defenders and scored from the penalty spot. Alison Watkins fired a shot from distance in the 80th minute that struck the crossbar and fell to Amber Harless, who planted the goal; the first of her career.

STAT OF THE GAME
Troy played 26 players in the match allowing several players to get minutes as well as others to rest as the team is in the midst of a five-game-in-10-day stretch.

The Trojans took 23 shots in the match compared to just three by Alabama State. Individually, Brooke McKee led the way with five shots.

QUOTABLE
"We had some players really show us some things today," head coach Jason Hamilton said. "We had some players that haven't played that much really step up and show that they deserve to be on the field."

UP NEXT
Troy (4-1) travels to UT Martin on Friday before tangling with Ole Miss in Oxford on Sunday. The Rebels recently fell out of the NSCAA Top 25 poll.

NOTEWORTHY
• Emily Stearns scored her fifth career goal, but first as a Trojan. She scored four times at Nova Southeastern as a freshman.

• Sydnay Tucker started in goal for the Trojans for the first time this season. The sophomore started twice last season.

• Freshman Gretchen Cagle played the final 45 minutes at goalkeeper. It was her first collegiate action after she received a redshirt at Tennessee last season.

• Sophie Wilson made her debut for Troy coming on as a substitute in the second half. Mecca Cobbin saw her first action of 2016 after suffering a minor injury in the team's exhibition against Alabama on Aug. 14.

Trojans Score Six in Win at UAPB
PINE BLUFF – The Trojan soccer team earned its third consecutive win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating UAPB 6-2 at Pumphrey Stadium.

Caitlyn Eddy got the Trojans going with a goal in the 21st minute. With multiple players for both teams scrambling for the ball in the penalty area, Doro Greulich notched the ball back to Eddy who tucked it underneath the goalie for a 1-0 lead.

Jaclyn Purvine scored next for her first time this season, taking a pass on the right side from Quin Wilkes. Purvine looped the ball over the UAPB goalkeeper in the 37th minute to make it a 2-0 Trojan lead.

Fresh off the bench after halftime, Madison Bingham got the first goal of her college career. With Harrison Hayworth on the ball, a UAPB defender tackled it away from her. But the ball slid right to Bingham, who rocketed a low shot straight into the back of the net to make it a 3-0 Trojan lead.

Purvine got her second goal seven minutes later, this one on a penalty kick after a UAPB defender used her hands in the penalty box. And Purvine notched an assist on a Fali Garuba goal in the 60th minute, passing the ball to an open Garuba in the middle of the box.

Quin Wilkes capped the Trojan scoring with a shot from distance in the 72nd minute.

Little Rock stays on the road for its next game when it takes on Texas A&M on the SEC Network+. The game will be play Friday at 7:30 p.m.

PANTHERS FIGHT TO 0-0 DRAW
ATLANTA- In a mid-week match up against Jacksonville State, the Georgia State women’s soccer team played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.

The Panthers moved to 1-1-2 on the young season, to while the Gamecocks earned their first draw and are now 1-3-1.

GSU came out strong defensively, holding JSU to just three shots in the first half. Senior Alexis Thomas had an early shot for the Panthers, but a defensive block kept the ball out of the net.

Junior Brie Haynes had a key save to close the first half, keeping the score even going into halftime. Haynes had six total saves, just three shy of her single-game career high.

The team opened up the second half controlling the ball and taking six shots. Georgia State totaled seven shots overall on the night.

The Panthers will be back on the field on Friday to host Alabama A&M at 5 p.m., and will be followed by a 7:30 p.m. men’s soccer match. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com. Admission to the GSU Sports Complex is free of charge.
