Coastal Carolina 3, Louisiana 0
In a tale of two halves, Mackenzie Cherry, Lauren Dabner and Baylee Price led the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Friday evening at the CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway. The win improved the Chants' record to 5-5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Sun Belt while Louisiana fell to 3-8-3 and 2-3 in conference action.
The first 45 minutes were scoreless with Coastal being the more aggressive of the two teams. The Chants out-shot the visitors 8-4 and held a 5-1 advantage in corners with each team getting a lone shot on goal. Sunny Sigurvinsdottir, Hannah Miller and Dabner paced the first half CCU attack with two shots each.
Texas State 1, Appalachian State 0
Junior Genesis Turman knocked in a loose ball for the match's lone goal as the Texas State soccer team defeated Appalachian State 1-0 at the Appalachian State Soccer Complex.
The Bobcats improved to 7-5-1 on the season and maintain their lead atop the Sun Belt Conference standings at 5-0-1. The Mountaineers fell to 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.
Troy 2, Georgia Southern 1
The Troy soccer team earned an important road victory knocking off Georgia Southern, 2-1, on Friday.
Making her first career start, freshman Britt Ellmore made the most of it early. In the 14thminute, Kendra Cashion collected a loose ball and pushed it to the top of the box where she dumped it off to Lauren Aldrich. The senior then skirted a pass to Ellmore who slid a shot into the bottom right corner for her first career goal.
Cashion got on the scoresheet in the 37th when the Georgia Southern goalkeeper whiffed on a back pass allowing the speedy Cashion to run onto the ball and tap it in for the goal. The win snapped a four-game skid for Troy (3-10-1, 2-3 SBC).
Georgia State 2, ULM 1
Caitlin Ray knocked in two goals and gave Georgia State back-to-back victories on GSU’s Senior Night, boosting the Panthers to a 2-1 win over ULM on Friday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.
Georgia State improved to 4-9-1 overall and 2-4 in the Sun Belt while ULM dropped to 0-13-0 and 0-6 in conference play. The win was also the Panthers’ fourth in a row against the Warhawks.
