Arkansas State 67, UTEP 66
El Paso, Texas (12/1/18) – Akasha Westbrook’s 3-point play with 13.9 seconds to go propelled Arkansas State to a 67-66 victory over UTEP Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center.
A-State (3-4) trailed for much of the afternoon but rallied from a 10 points deficit to pick up the program’s first win in El Paso since the 1989-90 season. Westbrook’s winning sequence was set up by a drive from freshman guard Jireh Washington who drew the defense to her and then dished the ball to Westbrook who made the layup and converted the layup to go up by one.
Coastal Carolina 89, NC Central 66
DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team won its third consecutive game, and first on the road this season, defeating North Carolina Central 89-66 Saturday afternoon at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Coastal improves to 5-1 with the win and is off to its best season start since the 2011-12 Chanticleers won six of seven games to open the season. North Carolina Central remains winless through its first seven games.
WKU 68, Little Rock 56
LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock Trojans were bested 68-56 by WKU Saturday night in the finale of Homecoming's Doubleheader. Kyra Collier led the Trojans with a game-high tying 22 points, having been the leading scorer in back-to-back contests for the first time in her career and for the third time this season.
Tonight's contest with WKU marks the fourth consecutive meeting with a team that was a NCAA Tournament team last year. Little Rock has faced six teams that competed in postseason play last year and will challenge four more teams this season that participated in extended play during this past March.
UT Rio Grande Valley 75, Louisiana 60
EDINBURG, Texas – Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-5, 0-0 SBC) dropped its second-straight game of the weekend, losing to the hosting UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros (5-3, 0-0 WAC) 75-60, to wrap up the Texas Rio Grande Valley: Battle on the Boarder at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet finished with a team-high 16 points (6-for-7 from the field), while freshmen guards Brandi Williams and Diamond Morrison each finished with 13 points apiece, giving Louisiana three scorers in double-digits. On the defensive end, Louisiana guarded the perimeter well, holding UTRGV to 28 percent shooting from three-point range during the game.
