The Texas State soccer team stunned the five-time defending Sun Belt Conference Champions South Alabama 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Cage. It was the Bobcats' first-ever win over the Jaguars in the seventh meeting all-time.
With the victory, TXST is at .500 on the season at 5-5-0 and sit atop the Sun Belt standings at 3-0-0 while USA drops to 3-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Appalachian State 2, Georgia Southern 1
Senior forward Kat Greer scored two goals to lead Appalachian State University women's soccer (5-4-1, 2-0 SBC) to a 2-1 victory at Georgia Southern (3-6, 1-1 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.
The Mountaineers are 2-0 in the Sun Belt for the first time since their first year in the conference in 2014. Appalachian also surpasses last season win total, while the back-to-back road victories are the first since 2015.
Coastal Carolina 2, Troy 1
Lauren Dabner and Hannah Miller each scored to lead the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Troy Trojans, Sunday afternoon in Troy, Ala. The win improved the Chants record to 4-4-1 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt action while the Trojans fell to 2-9-1 and 1-2 in the conference.
The first 20 minutes were evenly matched defensively as neither was able to get an advantage on the other. Coastal struck first when Dabner took the penalty kick after a Troy defender fouled a CCU player in the box. Dabner beat the hosts' goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Louisiana 1, ULM 0
Sophomore Una Einarsdottir's first half goal lifted the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team to a 1-0 victory over ULM in Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday afternoon at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
Louisiana (2-7-2, 1-2-0 SBC) dominated the possession during the match outshooting the Warhawks (0-10-0, 0-3-0 SBC) 13-2 in the contest including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Ragin' Cajuns also had a 10-2 edge in corners.
Arkansas State 2, Georgia State 0
Hailey Furio and Hannah Maupin each scored goals in the second half as the Arkansas State women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Sun Belt Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Georgia State Sunday afternoon at Blazer Field at Valley View High School.
Game officials made the decision late Saturday evening to move the game to Blazer Field after heavy rains moved through Northeast Arkansas and made conditions at the A-State Soccer Park unplayable. The rain continued to fall on Sunday throughout the match as teams attempted to create scoring chances on the turf playing surface.
