Trojans Win Fourth Consecutive Match
LITTLE ROCK- Another brilliant two-goal performance from Jaclyn Purvine helped the Trojans pick up their fourth consecutive victory as they defeated Mississippi Valley State 3-0 on the road.

"I was delighted at how we moved the ball," said Head Coach Mark Foster. "We used a lot of players. I was delighted at how they came in and moved the ball and freshened up the play a little bit. It was also very nice to keep another clean sheet."

Purvine now has six goals in her last four games to lead the Sun Belt Conference. Sairra Tucker also provided excellent service, delivering the assist for both of Purvine's goals. Maeve Burger also continued her good form with a late goal to seal the 3-0 result.

The first goal came in the sixth minute when Tucker made her way down the left side of the box and whipped in a cross that found Purvine in front of goal, she wasted no time to slot the ball into the back of the net and give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.

The Purvine-Tucker tandem struck again in the 14th minute. Tucker found her way into the box and her shot was driven off the post. Purvine was there to pounce on the loose ball and promptly knock it home.

The goal that sealed the result came from Burger in the 62nd minute. Doro Greulich managed to hold up play at the top of the penalty area before she laid the ball off in front of Burger. The pass caught the German midfielder right in stride as she calmly placed it into the corner of the net to cap off the 3-0 win.

Little Rock's defense has also proved to be in stellar form as of late. The team has only conceded one goal in their last four matches. The defensive back line of Samantha Rolka, Liesa Seifert, Nora Hellmers and Bergros Ageirsdottir has been fantastic. Sara Johannsdottir has also been solid between the posts as she now has three shutouts on the season.

Purvine now leads the Sun Belt in goals (6), points (14) and points per game (2.33). Tucker leads the team in assists (3) after today's match.

The Trojans will return to action Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. when they take on Big 12 opponent TCU at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex.

Georgia Southern's Brattum Ends Drought as Springer Shuts the Door
STATESBORO, Ga. – On a strange afternoon for weather in Statesboro, the Georgia Southern women's soccer team defeated Davidson 1-0 inside the friendly confines of Eagle Field. Frida Brattum secured The Blue and White's only goal, while Jocelyn Springer shut the door in net, collecting her first career clean-sheet and victory.

The Eagles began the afternoon looking to avenge a double overtime loss to Stetson Friday night, creating multiple quality scoring chances out of the gate. Late in the first half Frida Brattum ended the two game scoring drought the Eagles were on, taking a touch from a long ball played by Hannah Smith, and scoring off the far post to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half the Eagles controlled possession and created numerous scoring chances. Midway through the second half, Junique Rodruigez took a touch and found some space just inside the penalty box to give herself a chance. The opportunity hit off the crossbar and fell to Marcela Montoya who's shot was deflected wide for an Eagles corner. The Wildcats had opportunities late, but Springer and the backline of the Georgia Southern defense did not allow Davidson back into the match and improved to 2-4-0 on the season. The Blue and White will now prepare for the final non-conference road trip of the season, traveling to Kennesaw, Georgia to take on Kennesaw State Friday.

WHAT HEAD COACH BRIAN DUNLEAVY SAID
"I'm really pleased for the team, it's difficult to bounce back after a double overtime loss on Friday night, particularly since we had a lot of chances to win that game. The players stuck with the process, came out and worked hard for 90 minutes today and got the results they deserved. I thought we executed our game plan really well, we caused them a lot of problems and created numerous quality chances. We could've put another one or two away, and made it more comfortable at the end of the game."

Hanusek's Penalty Goal Lifts App to 4-3 Victory
BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer (3-2-1) stayed undefeated at home with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Gardner-Webb (2-3-1) on Sunday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

The Mountaineers are now 3-0 at home this season and undefeated on the six-match homestand.

The Mountaineers received a number of contributions as three different players scored and three different players earned an assist. Lauren Burke received her between the posts playing all 90 minutes en route to earning her first win as the starter.

It was a high-scoring affair while both teams combined for 23 shots, of which 17 were on target.

After GWU had come back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it up late in the game, Maggie Hanusek stepped up after being fouled in the box and capitalized on a penalty kick in the 89th minute to lift Appalachian to the triumph. With the game-winning score and her second-half assist, it's the second time this season Hanusek has notched a score and a helper.

"I thought the team showed a lot of resiliency," head coach Sarah Strickland said when talking about GWU's comeback. I was telling the girls after the game the bench was huge and the crowd was incredible. There was a feeling of belief that we were going to win in regulation. This was a good Gardner-Webb team that we knew were coming in with some really good results. I though we held it together and continued to attack."

The Mountaineers didn't wait to strike first as Kristin Brown sent a perfect corner into the box where Ava Dawson headed in the shot to give App a 1-0 lead.

GWU would respond near midway through the first period on a penalty kick from Stina Kleppe to tie up the game at 1-apiece. Mary Perkins had a couple shots at the target but both were saved, leading to a 1-1 deadlock going into the break.

Once again, Appalachian started fast in the first 10 minutes of the second period when Maggie Hanusek crossed a perfect ball that only Dawson could get, which she headed it in for her second goal of the day. It's the second time in her career (2017) she's scored multiple goals in a game.

The Mountaineers tacked on another goal to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute when after a Perkins shot attempt ricochet off a GWU defender in the box, Blair Anderes was there at the right moment to send in the tally for her first-career goal in a Black and Gold uniform.

However, The Runnin' Bulldogs made it interesting in the final 17 minutes of the contest. Jada Newton found the back of the net at 72' to cut the deficit to one before Samuelle Grove scored with nine minutes left to tie up the contest.

Appalachian regrouped and made the plays it needed to put itself in the position to win the contest and improve to 4-3-1 against GWU.

The Mountaineers will return to action for a third home match on Thursday against North Florida at 7 p.m.

Kondikoff Nets Brace in Shutout of Panthers
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Junior midfielder Jordan Kondikoff played a part in all of the Texas State soccer team's goals in a 3-0 shutout victory over Prairie View A&M at the PVAMU Soccer Field on Sunday with two first half goals and an assist. The shutout was the 12th straight over the Panthers to tie for the longest active national shutout mark over a single opponent.

The victory snapped a three-match losing streak for the Bobcats as they improve to 2-4-0 on the season. PVAMU drops to 1-4-0 overall.

Kaylee Davis had an excellent chance to crack the scoreboard in the scoreless match. She received the ball on TXST's defensive half of the field and was able to use her speed to get past multiple defenders. The Allen, Texas native ripped a shot that rattled off the left post.

The breakthrough finally came in the 36th minute for Texas State. Holly Streber sent in a long, high pass from the left side and found an open Kondikoff in the box. The junior sent a hard shot past the keeper for her first goal of the season.

Kondikoff increased the lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute after sending the ball into the back left corner. The Mesquite, Texas native received the ball from Cameron Hart after a quick pass back from Mackenzie Smith. Both were credited with their first collegiate assists.

Hannah Solano nearly increased the lead in the 61st minute when she got through a couple of defenders and sent a screamer towards the left netting. Unfortunately, the ball curled just enough to stay out of the goal.

Five minutes later, Smith had a breakaway opportunity but sent her attempt straight at the PVAMU goalkeeper.

Early in the 76th minute, Kondikoff got the ball near the right sideline in the offensive third of the field. She sent in a perfect cross to Haley Groff, who placed her shot into the left corner to increase the lead to 3-0 on her first collegiate goal.

Groff nearly tallied her second goal of the match in the 80th minute. She unleashed a shot that the keeper stopped but unable to corral. The sophomore nearly got to the rebound but the goalkeeper beat her to it and fell on the ball.

Kathryn Budde came up with three big saves to keep the shutout beginning in the 83rd minute. The biggest threat came in the 86th minute when she had to leap and tip the ball that then bounced off the crossbar. Jessica Pikoff was there to clear the ball away from the danger zone.

Both Groff and Kondikoff took a game-high three shots apiece. Groff placed all three of her attempts on goal and Kondikoff posted two shots on goal. Also taking multiple shots was Davis, Smith and Solano.

Heather Martin earned the win between the posts after making two saves in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Budde recorded a season-high four saves in her fourth consecutive appearance.

Next up for Texas State is a meeting at Texas on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will air on the Longhorn Network.

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Freshman Mackenzie Bell sank her first two collegiate goals on Sunday (Sept. 2) against Northwestern State, but the Lady Demons match the Warhawks attack with five goals of their own, defeating ULM 5-2 in Natchitoches.

"I'm really happy for Mackenzie," said head soccer coach Keyton Wheelock. "She played well and nearly finished with a hat-trick when her shot ricocheted off the near position the 82nd minute. All of our newcomers have really stepped up and seen success this season, thats promising for the future of this team."

Bell's first goal came with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman teammate Cassidy Wiest passed to the streaking Bell who finished high on the breakaway.

Unfortunately, before Bell's goal came three from NSU, putting the Warhawks behind 3-1 at halftime.

NSU wasted no time in the second half to strike again, the header from Brittany Caserma in the 48th minute was her third goal of the game.

"As a team, we're improving each and every game," said Wheelock. "But we need to be more disciplined, no doubt."

ULM responded, with another goal from Bell with 59:30 on the clock. Northwestern State turned the ball over when Bell took control of the loose ball and sent it in to the lower left of the net.

The Lady Demons would answer with one last goal in the 76th minute after NSU's Norma Trejo collided with Truscott leading to a loose ball and the eventual score by Trejo.

JONESBORO, Ark. (9/2/18) – Bailey Gellis’ goal with five minutes to go in the first half helped the Arkansas State women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Oral Roberts at the Case Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.

Gellis scored in the 40th minute when she took a pass in the center of the field through a pair of defenders from Abby Harris for an excellent look on target for the match’s only goal. THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie
On coming up short: "Soccer is a game of two halves and if we cancel out the first 20 minutes, we're the better side. We won the second half today and Thursday against LSU but we're not coming out with results. You want to see the rewards for working hard and the effort, and although we see it as a coaching staff, what we'll gain out of these games now to prepare us for conference on the back end, (the team is) just living in the minute. We've got to come into these games knowing that we can compete and beat these bigger teams."

On Öhman's goal: "The goals were very similar today – they pressed us, forced errors and capitalized, and we did the same to them. We forced mistakes and they were struggling – at one point, they looked defeated, I felt. When it's starting to break, you have to push it a little more and we couldn't get it across the edge. The girls did fantastic; we're proud of them. We look the same when we win and when we lose; we hold our heads up high knowing that we've done enough. We gave everything we had in the tank."

On getting more chances: "The message to them today was if we could get our head up in a pocket within shooting range, take the shot. I felt like there were two or three other great chances from distance we could have taken. We felt like if we could have tested (Merritt) more, we could have gotten something out of it. We're doing better in the final third, but at the same time, I feel like if we have to shoot 20 times to score once, then we better shoot 20 times. We have to take more chances in the final third. Too many times, we're passing the ball when we should be shooting and shooting when we should be passing. We're young, but we look good and we look dangerous going forward."

On Mascia's play: "Brianna today was one of the best freshmen on the field on both sides of the game. She just never stops. Regardless of who you are – Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss – when pressure is good, it makes you panic and forces errors. That's what she did a good job at – she's relentless and in their face. She forced lots of errors. As a freshman, that's great to see. She's not the only one; there are others and I hate naming names, but she stands out today for me. She came in to prove a point and did exceptionally well."

UP NEXT
The Jaguars start a four-match road trip Thursday at Alabama. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
