Troy 71, Little Rock 66
TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team battled back from a 10-point, third quarter deficit to knock off the reigning Sun Belt Conference champions, 71-66, on Thursday in Trojan Arena.
The teams exchanged the lead 18 times and were tied 11 times in a conference slugfest between two programs that have split the last four Sun Belt tournament titles.
Troy (12-2, 3-0 SBC) trailed, 53-43, with 1:35 to play in the third quarter, but outscored Little Rock (6-8, 2-1) 28-13 over the final 11 minutes to extend its winning streak to six games, matching its season-long from last year.
ULM 58, Georgia Southern 57
Monroe, La. - Arsula Clark had the big plays when ULM needed them late. Tiara Malone kept ULM in the game to give them a chance down the stretch.
Clark's final big play of the night had her catch an inbound pass from Whitney Goins above the arc with 4.9 seconds to play. Clark attacked the right side of the lane, spun, and got free to the right block for the game-winning layup as time expired, lifting ULM to a 58-57 win over Georgia Southern Thursday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Clark set up the game-winning play by deflecting a Georgia Southern inbound pass intended for Tatum Barber. As the two fell to the corner and the ball went out of bounds, officials initially indicated the Eagles had retained possession. But an official review reversed the call, giving the ball to ULM.
Louisiana 57, Georgia State 54
LAFAYETTE – Powered by a strong start, and sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet's 23 points, Louisiana Women's Basketball (3-11, 1-2 SBC) got its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season, snapping a nine-game losing streak in the process, taking down the Georgia State Panthers (7-7, 1-2 SBC), 57-54, Thursday night at the CAJUNDOME.
Doucet led the way with her fourth 20-point game of the season, finishing with 23 points and seven rebounds. While sophomore guard Jomyra Mathis scored a career-high 14 points, 13 of which came in the second half, to power Louisiana to victory.
Defensively Louisiana was strong on the perimeter, holding Georgia State to 28.6 percent from beyond the arc and 32 percent from the field overall. While on the glass, the Ragin' Cajuns were strong outrebounding the Panthers 36-to-28.
Texas State 73, Coastal Carolina 58
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team (8-7, 3-0 Sun Belt) overcame a halftime deficit for the first time this season to upend the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (8-6, 0-3 Sun Belt), 73-58, on Thursday night at Strahan Arena.
The win improves Texas State to 3-0 in league play for the first time since the Bobcats started 5-0 in Southland Conference games during the 2007-08 season. The Bobcats concluded the 2007-08 season as SLC regular-season champions and played in the 2008 Women's National Invitation Tournament.
Arkansas State 77, South Alabama 64
MOBILE, Ala. (1/10/19) – The Arkansas State women’s basketball team remained undefeated with a 77-64 victory over South Alabama Thursday evening at the Mitchell Center.
Peyton Martin led the offensive attack for A-State (8-6, 3-0 Sun Belt) with 25 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Martin was a key factor in the third quarter as the Red Wolves went on a 12-0 run to push their advantage to 53-35. She scored 10 points in the frame, including eight in the paint.
