Round 3 Pairings) Coastal Carolina carded a 10-under par 278 to turn a five-stroke deficit into an eight-stroke lead during Round 2 of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship.
Freshman Nicole Abelar turned in a championship-low 6-under par 66 to vault into second in the individual standings, behind teammate Sophia Carlsen. Carlsen, a sophomore, shot four-under par 68 to retain the individual lead at the par-72, 6,193-yard LPGA International Hills Course.
Texas State shot 3-over par 291 as a team in Round 2 to sit in second place, while Georgia Southern posted a 9-over par 297 to maintain its position in the top pairing entering Tuesday’s final round.
Coastal Carolina’s Carlsen (-7, 137) and Abelar (-5, 139) are 2-of-8 golfers who sit under par for the championship, with South Alabama junior Julie Hovland (-4, 140), Texas State sophomore Noramol Nuchsila (-4, 140) and Texas State graduate student Sasikarn Somboonsup (-3, 141) also holding top five positioning.
South Alabama (+21, 597), Troy (+22, 598), Arkansas State (+23, 599), Little Rock (+27, 603), ULM (+28, 604), App State (+29, 605), Georgia State (+32, 608) and UTA (+46, 622) round out the conference championship field.
The third round of the 54-hole championship begins at 8:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday and will be
broadcast live on ESPN+ and
live scored via Golfstat.
