Fieldsend’s First Career Brace Advances Dukes to Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals

FOLEY, Ala. – Freshman Jeanette Fieldsend scored her first career brace as No. 5 seed James Madison defeated No. 4 seed App State to return to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Semifinals.
 
The Dukes (8-3-8) advance to the semifinal match on, November 3 at 7 p.m. CST at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala. They will face No. 1 seed South Alabama. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Despite 16 total shots in the first half, the goalkeepers for each team rose to the occasion with nine combined saves. At the half, the score remained locked at 0-0. Fieldsend scored her second goal of the season in the 62nd minute after a shot on frame from Brittany Munson was corralled at the back post for the 1-0 James Madison lead.
 
The Mountaineers had one shot in the second half, as Stephanie Barbosa connected with the equalizer in the 88th minute to tie the match at 1-1. App State keeper Kerry Eagleston tallied two saves in the final moments of the match to secure the 1-1 score line at the end of regulation.
 
The lone shot from either team in the first overtime period belonged to Fieldsend, who found a low cross from Ellie Johnson to score her second goal of the match in the 97th minute. The Dukes’ defense allowed two shots in the second overtime as Blom saved the potential equalizer 36 seconds into the final ten minute overtime.
 
Blom finished the night with four saves, as Eagleston ended with nine. James Madison finished the match with a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Six of the eight App State shots were on frame.
