Offensive Burst Sends Monarchs Back to Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Championship

FOLEY, Ala. – A pair of goals within 51 seconds advanced No. 2 seed Old Dominion over No. 3 seed Georgia Southern to return to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship.
 
The Monarchs (12-2-5) advance to the championship match for the second consecutive year on Sunday, November 5 at 1 p.m. CST at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala. In a rematch of the finals last season, they will face No. 5 seed James Madison for the title. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
The Monarchs started the match taking nine of the first ten shots. Three of the ten shots resulted in goals in the first 25 minutes of the first semifinal match of the day. Thalia Morisi placed a shot on frame in the 12th minute as the rebound fell to Rhea Kijowski for the early Old Dominion goal. 51 seconds later, Morisi scored her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Katie Lutz to put the Monarchs ahead 2-0 before 15 minutes had passed.
 
Georgia Southern (12-6-1) scored on its first shot of the half in the 25th minute as Ansleigh Crenshaw scored her second goal of the season with the assist from Isabel Kopp. Neither team finished another goal the remainder of the half, as the Monarchs led the Eagles 17-2 in shots through the first 45 minutes.
 
Georgia Southern keeper Quinn Wilson totaled nine saves in the match with seven in the first half, as the Eagles outshot the Monarchs 8-5 in the second half. Despite the offensive effort, Bredek totaled four saves to preserve the win and return Old Dominion to the championship match for the second consecutive season.
