ULM Wins 2023 Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship In Thrilling Playoff Finish

FINAL RESULTS

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It took two playoff holes to determine the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Champion on Tuesday. In thrilling fashion, ULM captured the first Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship in program history, winning the tiebreaker against Texas State.

ULM entered the Sun Belt Championship with the best team stroke average (292.50) of all league squads during the regular season. The Warhawks began the final 18 holes of the event with a three-stroke lead on Tuesday. ULM finished with a 16-over-par three-round total of 880 (291-293-296). The Warhawks placed all four scorers in the top-15 individually, led by Chantal Dueringer’s second place finish. Dueringer carded an even-par 216 (71-71-74).

ULM and Texas State remained all square through the first playoff hole before the Warhawks broke through on the second tiebreaker hole.

“It’s just unbelievable,” ULM head coach Rachel Pollock said. “I’ve got such a great group of girls and they’ve totally bought into the culture and what we’re trying to do at ULM. We talk so much about wanting to be in that situation and wanting to fight for a title. I am so proud of how they handled themselves.”

Texas State also finished with a 16-over-par 880. Arkansas State (888, +24), Georgia Southern (900, +36) and Southern Miss (902, +38) rounded out the top-five on the team leaderboard.

Old Dominion’s Leah Onosato claimed the tournament’s individual crown with a two-under-par 214 (68-73-73). It marked the first individual conference title in program history for the Monarchs.
