Postseason Hopes At Stake During Sixth Weekend of Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Schedule

NEW ORLEANS – Just three weeks remain in the Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer regular season as teams battle for positioning in the standings and coveted spots in the 2025 Sun Belt Championship bracket.

The sixth weekend of league competition features two East Division, two West Division and three cross-divisional matchups across three consecutive days beginning Friday, October 17. All seven matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

JAGS & DUKES
James Madison (7-3-5, 3-1-3 SBC) hosts South Alabama (8-3-2, 4-1-2 SBC) in a high-profile, cross-division matchup Friday evening in Harrisonburg, Va., between the winners of the East and West Divisions, respectively, last season. The Dukes and Jaguars played to a 2-2 draw in Mobile, Ala., in the 2024 regular season finale, but did not meet in the conference tournament. This year’s contest features two of the Sun Belt’s top three teams in league play in points and goals scored, as James Madison is second in points (43) and third in goals scored (14), while South Alabama is second in goals (15) and third in points (40).

BATTLE IN BOONE
A crucial East Division matchup is set for Sunday afternoon in Boone, N.C., when App State (5-6-3, 1-3-3 SBC) hosts Marshall (6-4-3, 2-2-3 SBC) in a matchup with postseason hopes on the line. The Mountaineers have earned six points in the Sun Belt standings and three divisional points, as they are tied for ninth place with Coastal Carolina in the overall standings. Meanwhile, the Thundering Herd have nine conference points and five divisional points and sit tied with Louisiana for seventh place overall. App State is led by Izzi Wood who ranks sixth in the Sun Belt with nine shots on goal against conference opponents. The Herd are led by Bailey Fisher who ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in shots on goal (19), tied for fifth in goals (6) and tied for seventh in points (13) this season.

WARHAWKS WEAPONRY
ULM (9-2-3, 4-0-3 SBC) hosts Troy (5-6-3, 0-4-3 SBC) on Sunday afternoon in its final home match of the season, as the Warhawks are the only remaining Sun Belt team unbeaten on its home pitch this season with a 6-0-2 overall record. Riding the Sun Belt’s longest active unbeaten streak at 10 in a row, ULM is led by two-time Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week and senior forward Skylar Blaise who is tied for the league lead in goals scored (10) and ranks second in points (23) this season. She has tallied three-straight multi-point performances and four total on the season. Additionally, Blaise ranks first among all players in both of those categories in conference play with six goals and 15 points. Additionally, senior midfielder Margret Bjarnadottir ranks No. 5 nationally in assists per game (0.64) in 2025 and has five helpers through seven Sun Belt matches. Bjarnadottir has one assist in each of the Warhawks’ last three-straight matches.

DRAWS HISTORY
Through 49 total Sun Belt matches played this season and with 21 remaining, 19 league contests have ended in draws which ranks tied with the 2021 campaign for the second most in a season in conference history and just three behind the standard of 22 set in 2024. Coastal Carolina eclipsed the Sun Belt record for draws in conference play with six in its first seven matches this season after a 1-1 tie against Texas State on Oct. 13. In 2022, the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel eliminated overtime for regular season matches tied after 90 minutes.

LAST OF THE UNBEATENS
Through seven Sun Belt matches, just three teams remain unbeaten: Texas State, Old Dominion, and ULM. Extending beyond conference play, ULM increased its undefeated streak to 10 with a 3-2 home win over App State. Old Dominion owns the second-longest active unbeaten streak at nine in a row with six wins and three draws dating back to a Sept. 4 win over then-20th-ranked Virginia Tech, followed by Texas State at seven-consecutive matches.

HOME COMFORT
Texas State owns the longest active unbeaten streak at home against Sun Belt opponents at 14-consecutive matches. The Bobcats own a 9-0-5 record against league opponents in San Marcos going back to late in the 2022 season, while Old Dominion holds the second-longest streak at 12-straight with a 7-0-5 mark going back to the 2023 campaign. James Madison is next on the list, undefeated in its last 10 league matches at home (9-0-1), followed by Georgia State (5-0-2) and South Alabama (5-0-2) at seven in a row.
