NEW ORLEANS – Arkansas State’s Thomas Schmidt and South Alabama’s Katharina Schroll earn individual titles on their way to being named Sun Belt men’s and women’s golfers of the week.

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Thomas Schmidt, Arkansas State
(Jr., Gelsenkirchen, Germany)

Schmidt secured his second win of the season and the fourth of his career at Torrey Pines in the UC San Diego Invitational. The junior went 5-under par (211) and was the only player to finish under par in the field. With his four career wins, Schmidt is tied for the second-most medalist honors in program history trailing only Zan Luka Stirn's (2017-22) five titles. Schmidt led the field with 15 birdies on the week where the scoring average finished at 77.07. For the tournament, he carried a scoring average of 70.33. 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Katharina Schroll, South Alabama
(Fr., Vienna, Austria)

Schroll finished with a total card of 214 tying for first place individually and led South Alabama to a second-place finish at the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The first-place finish marked the best finish of the season for Schroll. The freshman has finished par or better 11 times this season and tied for the most pars at the tournament with 37 while leading the field with nine birdies.

With the second-place finish, the Jaguars finished ahead of nationally ranked Notre Dame (No. 84) and just four shots back of No. 66 Texas Tech.
